Thanksgiving Meal Being Planned
|
Once again, we are asking for your help in serving our less fortunate brothers and sisters in our Houston community at a Thanksgiving meal at Memorial Lutheran Church this Thanksgiving Day. We will need the help of the entire congregation in order to make this a success. We at Memorial have been abundantly blessed and this is one small way of sharing God's many blessings. If you wish to volunteer, make a donation or want more information please see Wayne Murray at the table in the commons between worship services or contact Wayne or Arlene at home, 281 240 9644, or [email protected].

Semper Reformanda
In some sense the Reformation is not ever complete and never will be. Every generation must appropriate the insights of our Lutheran faith for itself. We may not rest on our Lutheran laurels, as though our faith can be bequeathed as a birthright. No, the faith must always be specifically confessed by us today, tomorrow, and until the ages come to their close at the return of Christ. Paul celebrates the benefits of the work of Christ, who is a propitiation by His blood "to show his righteousness at the present time" (Romans 3:26). God is always making present His Word to us so that we are again and again brought to repentance and given the forgiveness of sins today and every "today" hereafter. We'll always be undergoing the reformation through the Word of God functioning in our lives. You are not a Lutheran because you know who Luther is, but because you believe and confess what he believed and confessed. We are always being reformed by the Word of God.

Because You Asked
This past week Pastor Murray traveled to the Philippines to represent the LCMS at the 23rd regular convention of the Lutheran Church in the Philippines (LCP). LCP is a church founded by LCMS missionaries, who first arrived in 1946 following WW II. There are about 60 parishes plus a large number of preaching stations in the Philippines. The LCP continues to use the Lutheran Hymnal of 1941. The preaching that I heard during the convention was Christ-centered and faithfully biblical. The church as a small seminary in Baguio City where there are 16 students enrolled in a 5-year program. They share our faith and wanted the members of Memorial Lutheran Church to know in what high regard they hold them.
