| Pastor St-Onge's visit to Memorial reminds us of the exciting things that are happening internationally in LCMS mission work (see below). The number of career missionaries being assigned to overseas fields is increasing dramatically. It will be good to hear about the specific work that Pastor St-Onge will be doing in Asia. We will be able to partner with him in that work. Your support of our mission budget helps make that possible. We are extending ourselves internationally to all nations according to the command of Christ: "The gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations" (Mark 13:10). |
Weddings Bells Ringing Out!
"They shall become one flesh" (Matthew 19:5). Weddings bells are ringing out! A number of young people are planning weddings right now, including my daughter, Anastasia, who is planning a June wedding. Marriage is under-appreciated these days; between the push for same sex marriage and the avoidance of marriage on the part of some. Yet, under Christ the shape of life fulfilling God's goal to be fruitful and multiply (Gn 1:28), Christian young people are placing themselves in the discipline of holy marriage. Please encourage and embrace these young people who are such beautiful signs of Christ's love for His bride the church.

Who's New?
Nathan Haak comes to us from St. Charles, MO where he had lived for the past 15 years. He works as a financial analyst. Outside of work and church, he enjoys running and music, especially playing his Trombone, singing in the church choir and in a barbershop chorus. Nathan has one brother who is a LCMS pastor in Rochester, MN.
Please welcome Nathan when you see him at MLC.

Financial Stewardship Highlighted
In September, the Stewardship Committee asked Memorial members for financial support of the general fund to avoid falling further behind budget. Support of the general fund fulfills our Lord's command by maintaining facility and staff so that the Word can be taught. It enables God's people to be blessed in worship, sacrament, and fellowship together. It also supports local and district initiatives, and international missions to reach non-believers and share the Good News across the globe.
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:19-21)

Call Committee Makes Progress
The call committee of Memorial Lutheran Church is making remarkably swift progress toward offering a candidate to the congregation for election to the office of Associate Pastor. The committee has reduced the list of candidates to four men. They were interviewed by phone on 16 October. After sorting out the results of those interviews, the committee will advise the congregation of its next steps. Pray the Lord of the harvest for workers in His harvest field.

This Sunday, 20 October is the last Sunday to take member photos between services in the commons. Come have your family's photos and individual photos taken for our photo directory and church database. If you don't like your past photo or have never taken a member photo before, this is your chance!
Look for the photo backdrop in the commons and smile for the camera.

St-Onge Visits MLCS Next Week
Pastor St-Onge will be visiting MLCS on 21 October 2013 during the 8:15 AM school chapel. If you would like to come for the chapel service, you are welcome to do so.
He will also be speaking during CEN on 23 October. Come for Food and Fellowship at 5:15 PM and stay for the class at 6:00 PM. He is looking forward to seeing all of you!

The Ecclesiastical Arts committee has been meeting to plan the bowl in the baptismal font. They have been talking to Jim Bowman, an glass artist from Dallas. Mr. Bowman is designing a glass bowl that will become part of our fond and that would have continuously flowing water in the font. This is "living water."
