Dear Mark,

Report cards are out and we are getting closer to the Thanksgiving Break! We encourage our families to take time and review their child’s grades. Have conversations of the great things we see and also the improvements that students can make.

This week we are celebrating Red Ribbon Week and living drug free. Students will have the opportunity to dress up each day (as long as they stay in dress code) and participate in fun events focusing on living their best lives. Red Ribbon Week is essential to our students' resiliency lessons for the school year.

As you will also see, we have had had a lot of FUN events on campus these last few weeks. Ask your student about our Pep Rally, Dance, and Spirit Days! These are the type of events that we want our students to enjoy and that make Memorial Special.

Please take time to read our latest edition of The Soldier Sentinel and we thank you for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,

Eddie Foster

Winter Testing Days

Soldier Families- Mark Your Calendar!

December 3rd and 5th and December 9th-12th are WINTER TESTING DAYS. ALL students will be testing on these days. Parents, make sure your student is in attendance. Additionally, we try to not have any appointments or early pick ups on these very important school days.

OCPS Code of Conduct Consequences Update

This past week, the superintendent sent a message to families of 6th -12th grade students letting them know that effective immediately, any violations of the Code of Student Conduct that involve threats, intimidation, or weapons will result in more severe consequences.

The consequences for making a threat with a weapon will now include a full exclusion and expulsion from our district. The changes are in response to the increase in school disruptions caused by social media posts and rumors about school threats in our secondary schools. This is the same problem that has been plaguing a lot of school districts across the country.

Our middle and high school students are taking a canvas course explaining the consequences. Our elementary students will have age appropriate review of the changes during their quarterly reviews. We encourage all parents to also view the canvas course that is on your child’s canvas dashboard.

Also just this week, the state announced more severe consequences for making a threat or false report through the Fortify Florida app.

If you have any questions please contact the school. Thank you for your support as we work together to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for all of our students.

Memorial Middle School Pep Rally

We recently held our first Pep Rally of the year . . . and it was AMAZING! Students were able to participate in mutliple activities against their rival grade levels. Students really enjoyed this event and are even more excited for our next Pep Rally in December!

9/11 Day of Service

Our students created toiletry bags, posted facts about 9/11 around school to educate their peers, posters and banners were also created.

Youth created 75+ bags of toiletries and gave multiple boxes of food for our families in need. Our target was to help individuals in our community have their basic and essential needs met. Again, we are extremely grateful for this opportunity: alone you can do so little, together we can do so much. We loved how this project turned out. Thank you for kindness and continued support.

Attendance is Important

Families – Please work to make sure your student is in school, on time each day.

Save the Date!

Thursday, December 12

Mark your calendars now for one of the BIGGEST events of the YEAR at MEMORIAL. Our Annual Winter PRISM CONCERT will be held December 12th from 6-7 in our school gym. Make plans to bring the whole family our to see our students perform.

Memorial Students Visit Dr. Phillips High School

Recently, Memorial Middle School sent students to Dr. Phillips High School to see their performance of “Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.” This was a wonderful opportunity forour Soldiers to see some of the amazing choices that they have when selecting among high schools, if they choose to participate in a magnet program. Several students from Memorial were accepted into the Dr. Phillips High School Visual and Performing Arts Magnet this past school year and it was wonderful to see their success as part of the Harry Potter performance.
