Remembering 9/11

The Day the Earth Stood Still

I think we all have experienced at least one "Day the Earth Stood Still" moment in our lives. Maybe some of us have gone through more than one "stood still" experience with memories that still rock us to our very core. September 11th is one of those days for me - perhaps it is for you, as well.

This horrific event bound the world together for a short time. We put aside our differences, not only coming together as a country of Americans but as united citizens of the world to decry the atrocity for what it was and what it continues to be: unprovoked attacks on innocent human lives. Family members, friends, and countrymen have died to preserve freedom, democracy, and respect for human life, and they continue to put their lives on the line preserving this very essence of our core beliefs as Americans.

Memories of 9/11 are particularly poignant today considering our current events as of late. As we remember the happenings of September 11th and how profoundly our lives were altered as bereaved family members, friends, and Americans, we contemplate how we have made our world any better than it was 20 years ago. As grief and unity gave way to the daily act of living, we find ourselves twenty years later in the throes of an extremely divided nation. Have we forgotten?

Kindness and generosity of spirit cost nothing but a world of difference to the receiver. May your weekend be filled with kindness and peace.

Onward together,

Catherine Castro

President
