Memory Hub Team Spotlight
Dawn Robinson, Horticultural Therapy Practitioner (Maude's Garden at the Memory Hub)
Horticultural therapy is defined as the use of plants and garden-based activities for the purpose of human healing and rehabilitation. Dawn Robinson is a horticultural therapy practitioner with a background in garden design, therapeutic programming, and community engagement. At the Memory Hub, she has worked in the Garden Discovery Program, facilitating therapeutic horticulture and nature-based activities that encourage sensory exploration, social connection, and emotional well-being. She will lead the Fall 2025 season of the program, which is offered by the UW Memory and Brain Wellness Center and Seattle Parks and Recreation, and is made possible by support from Aegis Living Assisted Living and Memory Care communities. She holds a Diploma in Garden Design from the Inchbald School of Design and is completing her Certificate in Horticultural Therapy through the Horticultural Therapy Institute. Since 2008, Dawn has created outdoor spaces and garden-based programs that support well-being, particularly for underserved communities.

A Conversation with Allyson Schrier: A streaming service created to support people living with dementia (from Maude's Ventures)
Maude's Ventures recently interviewed Allyson Schrier, co-founder and president of Zinnia, a streaming service created to support people living with dementia. Schrier previously worked at the Memory Hub, on behalf of the UW Memory and Brain Wellness Center, until the fall of 2023, when she left to focus on her work at Zinnia. The platform uses curated imagery and sound to foster connection, reduce agitation, and evoke memories for people living with dementia. Read the interview or the story behind this technology.

Call for Art! Now Seeking Artists for the 2025-2026 Frame of Mind Exhibit
The Frame of Mind gallery at the Memory Hub features art created by people living with memory loss. Art is displayed for one year for visitors to enjoy. 12-15 artworks are displayed, typically 2-4 pieces per artist. We are now seeking artists for the 2025-2026 season. You don’t have to be a professional artist - anyone is welcome!

Join us on Wednesday, August 6, for a screening of the documentary film The Rest I Make Up by filmmaker Michelle Merman. The film explores the later years of Cuban-American playwright, producer, and actress Maria Irene Fornés, who maintained a vibrant creative life during her journey with dementia.
The MBWC and Memory Hub are community partners for the event, and the Frye Art Museum is helping lead a discussion.

Caregiver Support Group
Build a support system with people who understand. Alzheimer's Association® support groups, conducted by trained facilitators, are a safe place for care partners to: develop a support system, exchange practical information on challenges and possible solutions, talk through issues and ways of coping, share feelings, needs, and concerns, and learn about community resources.

Shared Outdoor Adventures for Resilience Program (S.O.A.R) 2025-2026
With the S.O.A.R. (Shared Outdoor Adventures for Resilience) Program, reinforce your strengths and connect with others through monthly small group hikes and other outdoor adventures in the Seattle area, through June 2025. S.O.A.R is for people diagnosed with Alzheimer's or another dementia before age 65, with a family member or friend.

Here:Now Art-making and Discussion Class (Fall 1)
Designed for adults living with dementia and their care partners to participate together, Here Now is a free arts engagement program that celebrates present-moment awareness and new possibilities for creative expression.
Enjoy conversation, art appreciation, and hands-on exploration of various art mediums in this six-week class taught by specially trained museum educators and teaching artists.

Mindfulness Meditation at the Frye Art Museum
The Frye offers free, thirty-minute drop-in sessions of Mindfulness Meditation on the first and third Wednesday of the month, 12:30 - 1pm. Sessions on the first Wednesday of the month are guided by Kristoffer Rhoads, PhD. Registration is not required. Learn more.
