Christina Kam, Memory Hub Intern
Christina Kam, an undergraduate at Pomona College on the pre-health track, is interning at the Memory Hub to develop her special interest in compassionate dementia care. On-site at the Memory Hub, Christina facilitates karaoke and tai chi with the Chinese Healthy Aging Program offered by Kin-On.
| |
“I am interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, and one aspect that is often overlooked is the importance of care, connection, and day-to-day support for individuals and their families,” says Christina. “The Memory Hub prioritizes inclusion and quality of life for people living with memory loss. This internship offers a valuable opportunity to understand better what compassionate, community-centered care looks like in practice, which will make me a more thoughtful and well-rounded future healthcare provider.”
Christina discovered the Memory Hub after her grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2019. Her mother attended a talk at the Memory Hub to learn about effective ways to care for someone with dementia.
| | When I learned about the Memory Hub, I wanted to support their mission and participate,” she says. “I loved the welcoming and engaging environment that the Memory Hub fosters.” Christina began volunteering at the Memory Hub's Alzheimer's Cafés while still in high school. | |
