Home Delivered Meals Authorized Only Due to Temporary Inability to Access SNAP Benefits Discontinued

Attention: County Board SSA Directors

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) is confirming that counties should discontinue authorizations for the Home and Community Based Waiver Service of Home Delivered Meals that they recently authorized only because the individual could not access SNAP benefits due to the federal government shutdown. The federal government has continued these benefits and full payment of SNAP coverage for recipients should be complete. Counties may discontinue those authorizations at the point that the recipient has received that full payment. If the person shows a therapeutic or habilitative need for the service, then the team should assess that need and authorize under the rule standards. For questions, please reach out to waiverpolicyta@dodd.ohio.gov.
