Jack de Keyzer!
Jack de Keyzer will represent the Toronto Blues Society at The International Blues Challenge in Memphis.
Congrats to   Jack de Keyzer who will be heading to Memphis to represent Toronto at the  International Blues Challenge . Big thanks to Bywater Blues and its members as the competing band for their fantastic performance. Our special thanks to Gavin McLeod who warmed up the night with his opening acoustic set and will be representing TBS in the Youth Category .

Yesterday, the two bands had a blues battle at the Dakota Tavern vying for the opportunity to represent the Toronto Blues Society at the upcoming Road to Memphis / International Blues Challenge, which will take place in Memphis between January 22-26 2019. All proceeds from the door go toward the winning band's expenses. Thanks to those of you who bought tickets and supported!

Call Out for the
Best Self-Produced CD Competition
Toronto Blues Society is looking for applications to be submitted for the Best Self-Produced CD Competition (BSPCD) held by the Blues Foundation.

In 2005, The Blues Foundation established an award for the Best Self-Produced CD, given out at the International Blues Challenge, to recognize excellence in independent Blues recordings.

Entries can be placed by Blues Foundation Affiliated Organizations only and each each affiliate is permitted one entry. Only CDs released between November 1, 2017 and October 31, 2018 are eligible for consideration.

Please send an e-mail to info@torontobluessociety.com with a link to your album until Sunday, October 28 by the end of the day.

The finalists will be announced prior to The International Blues Challenge with the winner revealed during the IBC Finals on Saturday, January 26, 2019.

7th Amy Louie Grossmans Music Scholarship

Congrats to  t he Swingin' Blackjacks  who won the Amy Louie Grossmans Music Scholarship at  Grossman's Tavern . The night was hosted by Dan McKinnon (pictured in the middle) who was the winner last year.

Dan McKinnon and Christina Louie, owner of Grossman's Tavern, hosted The 7th Annual Amy Louie Grossmans Music Scholarship at the end of September. In memory of Amy Louie, this yearly fundraiser was held to ensure that a scholarship will continue to benefit artists for years to come. The line up of amazing performers donate their time to the event and represent numerous generations, all for a great cause.
Blues for the Red Door is back and some of the finest musicians from across Southern Ontario will again take the stage at Lula Lounge on  Sunday, November 4  to give of their time, sing their hearts out and make music for this worthy cause. This year's amazing lineup includes headliners Jerome Godboo , Shakura S'Aida , Danny Marks , with the night hosted and presented by Big Rude Jake , and Pivotal Productions .

Backing them up is the truly amazing Blues for the Red Door House Band , made up entirely of Toronto’s top female musicians including Alison Young on Sax and Margaret Stowe on guitar.

The Red Door Shelter serves women and children, as well as families escaping violence and adversity. Blues for the Red Door is a charity Blues revue that benefits the Red Door Family Shelter in Toronto. We hope you will join them for a fabulous night of music and goodwill.

The 32nd edition is here, featuring some of Canada's finest musicians backed by the all-star Women's Blues Revue Band: Rebecca Hennessy  (Bandleader/Trumpet), Elena Kapeleris  (Sax), Emily Burgess  (Guitar), Carrie Chesnutt  (Sax), Morgan Doctor  (Drums), Lily Sazz  (Keys), Anna Ruddick (bass). T oronto Blues Society will celebrate its annual show this year at Toronto's  Roy Thomson Hall , as Massey Hall temporarily closes its red doors for a 2-year   revitalization .

The Women's Blues Revue will take place on  Friday ,   November 16   at  8pm . Alana Bridgewater , Dione Taylor , Suzie Vinnick , Samantha Martin , Nicky Lawrence , and Chloe Watkinson are part of our star-studded lineup. The night is hosted by Shakura S'Aida . Artist Corner: Elena Kapeleris
Elena Kapeleris is a Toronto-based saxophonist, vocalist, composer, bandleader, and educator who is currently a member of blues singer Rita Chiarelli’s touring band, Jully Black’s band, The Jay Danley Ethiojazz Project, and Surfire Sweat. Kapeleris also leads multiple projects of her own, and is in the process of writing her second CD.

A cash prize of  $1000  will be presented to the winner at the upcoming Maple Blues Awards, being held at Koerner Hall in Toronto on Monday, February 4, 2019. The second and third place winners will each receive  $250 . Canal Bank Shuffle Blues Festival
The 17th Annual Canal Bank Shuffle takes place between October 11-14. The annual event brings the finest in blues artists from around the world to Thorold, Ontario and this year's lineup includes  Taz Cru Eden Brent Reverend Raven, Brant Parker, Johnny Max, Blackburn Brothers, Jerome Godboo, David Gogo, Spencer MacKenzie, Jack de Keyzer, Chloe Watkinson and more. The festival will present about 30 bands over 4 days at various venues throughout downtown Thorold. Ticket are  $25  in advance and  $30  at the door.

Having recently won the competition for representing the Toronto Blues Society at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Jack de Keyzer is back to Hugh's Room Live and we are so excited to do a ticket giveaway for this concert! Blues Summit 9 at the Marriott Courtyard

Produced by Toronto Blues Society bi-annually, the Blues Summit  is Canada’s not-to-be-missed forum for all members of the blues music community including artists, presenters, agents, festival bookers, event organizers, radio hosts and industry representatives of all kinds. The conference provides an opportunity for members of the community to connect as well as for artists to showcase in front of blues industry professionals.

We are delighted to work with Marriott Courtyard as our host hotel for the Blues Summit 9 which takes place in February 1-4 . All the Blues Summit events and panels will be at the Marriott Courtyard in downtown Toronto.
