Greetings from NNJR President David Julis

We are currently living in both a politically charged environment and very turbulent time for our Jewish community and identity, particularly since the events of October 7th. On that day, our community faced a brutal assault that resulted in immeasurable loss and trauma. While the release of some hostages has brought a glimmer of hope, there are still 82 of our Jewish brothers and sisters being held in Gaza by Hamas.

In the wake of the attack, there has been a noticeable rise in antisemitism. This surge is not confined to any one region or demographic but is widespread, affecting Jewish communities across the globe.  Jewish businesses have been targeted, often vandalized or boycotted. Students at universities are also feeling the brunt of this rise in hostility. Reports of verbal abuse, physical attacks, and institutional bias are becoming alarmingly common.

Beyond the immediate threats to personal safety, the rise in antisemitism is having a broader impact on Jewish social and cultural identity. Community and religious events and gatherings, which have traditionally been sources of strength and solidarity, are now often held under heightened security measures, further emphasizing the sense of threat.

In these trying times, maintaining a strong cultural identity is both a challenge and a necessity.  It is crucial for the Jewish community to continue coming together. This is where Men’s Club comes in. Men’s Club provides a safe haven for our community to come together.

As you read this article, I am currently attending the Rabbi Joel S. Geffen Leadership Development Institute (LDI), being held at Pearlstone Center in Reistertown, MD, along with 85 of my fellow Men’s Club leaders and brothers.   During this weekend, we participate in various activities - learning, religious and social - that foster a sense of continuity and resilience and, most importantly, brotherhood. Think of it as a “mini-Convention”.

Solidarity within our Jewish community is essential. Supporting one another through these difficult times can take many forms, but the easiest way to show solidarity, is by attending the 2025 Biennial Convention being held in Chicago from July 3-6. Can you think of any one environment where you can gather with 400+ of your Men’s Club brothers? What better way to strengthen your network? What better way to show and ensure that our community remains strong and united and that no one feels alone in their struggles. If you haven’t registered yet, just do it. Think of it as an investment not just for yourself, but for the entire Jewish community. In solidarity, there is strength.

B’Shalom,

David

Club Communications With The Region

So, your club is having a program, and you want other clubs to know about it?

You would like some regional officers to attend your Men’s Club Shabbat?

You just want the NNJR leadership to know you’re doing something?

Here’s how you can keep the NNJR Board connected with your Men’s Club activities:

Every club should include the following email forwarding addresses in their mailing list:

president@nnjr.org – Keep the President informed about club events so they may attend if possible.

execvp@nnjr.org – Keep the Executive Vice President informed about club events so they may attend if possible.

communicationsvp@nnjr.org – Keep the Communications Vice President informed about club events so they may add it to this newsletter, etc. to keep other clubs informed.

Furthermore, each club should include the appropriate Rosh email address out of the following:

roshnorth@nnjr.org – For those clubs in the Northern District.

roshcentral@nnjr.org – For those clubs in the Central District.

roshsouth@nnjr.org – For those clubs in the Southern District.

This would be so your Rosh can be informed about club events so they may attend if possible.
