Greetings from NNJR President David Julis
|
There’s a song by Sam Cooke, “Change is Gonna Come”, and change is continuing to come to FJMC. In the most recent “Now You Know” message from FJMC International President, Alan Budman, said, “Big changes are planned for FJMC! For 96 years, we have relied on a club model that revolves around synagogue life, which was effective for decades. Now the dynamic has changed - Gen X and Gen Y (approximately 30-50 years old) are not joining synagogues as generations did before them and consequently, synagogues, and therefore our clubs, are shrinking.” Now, some of us are used to the old model of FJMC and want things to stay as they have always been. But change can happen, without really disrupting what has been.
I Just moved to a new home, and though my address has changed, my community hasn’t. I will still be going to the same shul that I have been going to for 40 years. I will still be shopping in the same stores. I will still be going to the same doctors. I still have the same friends, though I now have the opportunity to make new friends. So, really nothing has changed. This is the same for FJMC. The core values and beliefs are the same. All that’s changing is the home address. Our Jewish values haven’t changed. As a matter of fact, Judaism believes that not only do individuals have the ability to initiate change, but they have an obligation to do so. Change is an act of self-creation. It’s a good thing.
The theme of our upcoming Convention in Chicago from July 3rd-6th, is “Embracing Change and Energizing Communities”. I think that says it all. I encourage everyone to attend not only to hear more about the new direction that FJMC is taking, but to enrich your souls, and make new friends. And perhaps we can even share a L’chaim together.
B’Shalom,
David

Yellow Candle Pcikup
On Sunday, February 23, members of the NNJR region gathered at Howard Schreiber’s Piscataway warehouse to pick up this year’s allotment of Yellow Candle shipments. First, Jay Seliber of Marlboro Jewish Center expertly led us in morning minyan. That was followed by a bagel breakfast supplied by Howard, and then candle orders were provided to each of the 10 clubs that came for pickup. No one failed to show, and we wrapped up the proceedings in a tidy hour and a half. Our fearless leader, President David Julis, also joined us (albeit as minyan was winding down and bagels were being plattered) for moral support.
A huge thank you to Howard Schreiber for allowing the region to gather at his warehouse, for saving the region significant shipping charges, and for a fine breakfast and conversation. Once again, NNJR ordered the most candle cases of any FJMC region.

Club Communications With The Region
|
So, your club is having a program, and you want other clubs to know about it?
You would like some regional officers to attend your Men’s Club Shabbat?
You just want the NNJR leadership to know you’re doing something?
Here’s how you can keep the NNJR Board connected with your Men’s Club activities:
Every club should include the following email forwarding addresses in their mailing list:
president@nnjr.org – Keep the President informed about club events so they may attend if possible.
execvp@nnjr.org – Keep the Executive Vice President informed about club events so they may attend if possible.
communicationsvp@nnjr.org – Keep the Communications Vice President informed about club events so they may add it to this newsletter, etc. to keep other clubs informed.
Furthermore, each club should include the appropriate Rosh email address out of the following:
roshnorth@nnjr.org – For those clubs in the Northern District.
roshcentral@nnjr.org – For those clubs in the Central District.
roshsouth@nnjr.org – For those clubs in the Southern District.
This would be so your Rosh can be informed about club events so they may attend if possible.
