Middle Village Outage - Wednesday January 10th 9am-1pm

Alliant Energy has completed an undergrounding project of approximately four miles of electric transmission line between Keshena and Neopit to significantly improve the reliability of service in Middle Village.

This project built upon the successful Mattoon to Neopit underground conversion from 2021 and will continue in 2024 with another eight miles of transmission line placed underground between Middle Village and Keshena.

To place the new underground line into service, residents in the Middle Village area will experience an approximate four-hour power outage on January 10th from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. as the Alliant Energy project team switches from the overhead line to the underground line connections at the substation. If weather conditions do not allow the work to be completed that day, January 17th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. will serve as the alternate time.

Reliability data from the past 20 years shows that underground transmission lines are less likely to be affected during storms, and outages typically can be restored quicker. For example, with nearly 30% of Alliant Energy power lines underground in 2022, the average customer did not have any outages last year, and typical outages lasted just 71 minutes.

This past summer and fall were drier than normal, which expedited the construction completion of this stretch of the project in which we broke ground in July and completed testing in December.

We appreciate the support of MITW leaders throughout this ongoing project as well as the patience of residents as we continue to invest in a more reliable energy grid.

The assistance is being provided through the American Recovery Act funding the Tribe received, therefore it is required that an application be completed.

Paper applications are being mailed to all eligible elders. Applications are also available for download here or on the Tribal website at www.menominee-nsn.gov. Once complete, applications must be returned to The Department of Administration, P.O.
