Military Families and the Holidays

We are thankful for our military and their families who support them. Veterans Day was November 11, however, we will continue honoring Veterans and their families throughout the year. The holidays can be particularly hard for those in the military and their loved ones, not only husband, wives, and children, but all loved ones in their lives. The Mental Health and Recovery Board of Ashland County offers mental health and addiction services provided by partner agencies.

The holidays can be a difficult time for many people for a variety of reasons. A crisis can come in many forms and can cause you to feel like you are barely able to function. Your situation may involve overwhelming feelings of stress or hopelessness. Perhaps you or a loved one are struggling with depression or some form of mental illness. While these things may feel shameful and embarrassing, know that you are not alone. We are here to help you no matter how sensitive your issue may be.

Older Adults and Winter Isolation

In the winter, older adults may not be able to leave their homes without assistance, and family sometimes live far away or work. Going outside in the snow or ice to get the mail can lead to falls, and the time alone can cause depression, other negative impacts and become a high risk for thoughts of suicide.
