ʻImi Naʻauao
December 2020

The Hawaii Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (HASCD) is committed to giving back to Hawaii educators by providing and sharing online professional development opportunities and resources during this COVID-19 pandemic. We are happy to share our newsletter - 'Imi Na'auao.
Through developing an accountability practice and harnessing our self- and social awareness, we can begin the process of healing from the trauma of racism.
In addition to experiencing their own primary trauma separate from the schoolyard, teachers
can also feel the effects of students’ trauma
the pandemic.
The No. 1 predictor of how people rate their personal brain "fuel tank" is whether they believe their workplace supports them in keeping that tank full.
This pandemic has cemented the fact that self-care must be part of our Black liberation.

Dara Feldman shares a simple plan/practice they can do daily with themselves and their students using the free Virtues Cards application.

To support educators at this time, we are making all the stories in this issue of Educational Leadership magazine on educator mental health free and open to all users through December.

Eric Sheninger (@e_sheninger) shares the importance of balance in his latest blog post. Finding the right balance is a personal journey that considers available time, supports, and equity.

2020 has been a year that none of us could have ever imagined. 2020 has also been a year of understanding the value and importance of our first responders, frontline workers and educators for our communities. Educators have stepped up in so many ways that we have never experienced before. One thing is for sure, we are all continually committed to our students and look forward to the new year.
