Accreditation as a Marketing Tool

Once you achieve accreditation, it's time to shout it from the rooftops! Click below to see Jennifer's video on how to use your accreditation status as a marketing tool

NATCON 2023
“Individuals get into behavioral health because they want to help people, and when seeking employment, they look for accredited organizations doing great things.” – Joe Perrow, COA Accreditation, on how accreditation aids in talent acquisition.

This was just one part of the dynamic panel discussion, "Creating Momentum in Challenging Times Through Accreditation," moderated by Jennifer Flowers. Thank you to CARF InternationalThe Joint Commission, and COA Accreditation (a service of Social Current) for their insights and participation.

We can’t wait for our next panel, "How Accreditation Enhances Outcomes, Equity, and Service Experience of Children, Youth, and Families" at the upcoming ACRC Conference!

New and Revised COA Standards
The 2023 edition of updates to COA Accreditation standards are now available. Revisions of the Residential Treatment Services (RTX) standards promote a non-coercive environment focused on healing and empowerment through relationships, choice and active engagement. Enhancement of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) standards promotes the delivery of equitable services for all people. The 2023 edition of COA standards updates contains a full list of standards impacted by the 2023 updates.

Joint Commission - Proposed Workplace Violence Standards
The Joint Commission has posted a questionnaire to learn about workplace violence issues in behavioral health care organizations and to obtain feedback on potential workforce violence standards. Your feedback is requested by June 9.
Temporary Relief for Medication-Assisted (MAT) Providers
Due to the overwhelming comments (record number of 38,000) on the DEA proposed telemedicine rules, the DEA submitted a draft temporary rule to extend the COVID 19 telemedicine flexibilities for prescription of controlled medications beyond the May 11 expiration date. If approved, this action will offer temporary relief to MAT providers treating individuals with opioid addiction via technology. Comments included strong recommendations that the DEA proposed telemedicine rules would be in-line with the virtual treatment benefits realized during the pandemic.
Workforce Study
Recent survey data from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing indicates that behavioral health workers are looking for public policy changes to meet the demand for mental health or substance use treatment and care. The survey sounds the alarm for a continued exodus of behavioral health workers from the current workforce.
Second Chance
The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) is providing a funding opportunity for community- and faith-based organizations to develop programs to provide services for youth re-entering the community from juvenile residential or correctional facilities, including supportive re-entry services and training to key stakeholders and the re-entering youth.
May is National Mental Health Awareness Month!
During May, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) continues its efforts to raise awareness about mental health by fighting stigma, educating the public and advocating for policies that support the millions of people in the U.S. affected by mental illness.
