Finding Strength and Hope: A Client’s Journey

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we highlight the transformative power of seeking help and compassionate care.

For one woman, turning to the JFS Bennett Center for Behavioral Health meant addressing challenges with self-esteem, aging, financial stress, and relationships, while holding a strong desire to grow and move forward. Through consistent counseling, she found both support and meaningful change.

Working weekly with her clinician, she developed tools to navigate difficult situations and relationships with greater confidence. “I feel like things are just so much better,” she shares. “It’s changed my peace of mind, my interactions, and my overall outlook.

Today, she describes feeling strong, grounded, and grateful, embracing each day with greater clarity and hope. Her message to others is simple: “Please get help. Everyone at JFS is so caring and amazing.

Her journey reminds us that healing is possible; we don't have to face life’s challenges alone. For more information or to complete a therapy request form, please click here.

JFS was proud to participate in Stamford Public Schools’ recent Café Con La Super, hosted by the Office of Community Engagement to focus on mental health awareness and access to care.

The event brought together dozens of local providers, giving families the opportunity to connect with valuable resources. JFS staff met with parents, shared information about services, and helped ensure families across Stamford know where to turn for support.

We are grateful to Stamford Public Schools for their leadership in creating opportunities that strengthen community connections and expand access to quality mental health care.

JFS attended the City of Norwich Haitian Flag Raising Ceremony, honoring our very own Darly Mervius, JFS Case Manager. Sponsored by the City of Norwich, Global City Norwich, and the Haitian Community Center of Greater Norwich, the celebration recognized Darly’s tireless commitment and service to the Haitian community.

Mayor Swarnit Singh presented Darly with this special honor in recognition of her dedication, compassion, and leadership.

We are grateful to the members of the Shir Ami congregation for turning compassion into action. Volunteers collected food donations and assembled care bags for JFS clients, helping ensure individuals and families have access to essential resources. Their kindness and dedication highlight the power of community and the impact we can make when we come together to support one another.
