May 2026 Newsletter

From our CEO

Dear MHP Community,

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this year we’re celebrating 75 Years of Hope — Creating More Good Days Together.

Our 2025 Impact Report is now live, and it captures what that really looks like — more people reached, stronger connections, and lives changed through peer-led support and community care.

I invite you to click below to read the full report and see the impact you help make possible.

Last month, we were grateful to gather with many of you at our Impact Report Breakfast, pictured below. Thank you for being part of this community and this work. Throughout May, we’ll be sharing stories, resources, and ways to get involved each day. Follow along on our social media channels and join us in creating more good days together.

Most importantly, this work only happens because of you. Please click the DONATE NOW button below and make a gift of any size today. Your support helps ensure that more people can find connection, support, and hope when they need it most.

With much gratitude,

Dr. Jeannine L. Lisitski, President & CEO

DIRECT SERVICES

Zoo Outing with Targeted Case Management

Last month, our Targeted Case Management team hosted a zoo outing for participants, joined by our Delaware County team and peer specialists.

For many, it was their first time visiting the zoo, or their first since childhood. The day offered a chance to enjoy nature, connect with others, and experience something new.

For 75 years, MHP has created opportunities for connection like this, helping people build community, explore new experiences, and create more good days together.

Hold On, You Matter Spring Walk 2026 with PeerNet Bucks County

At the 'Hold On You Matter Spring Walk 2026' at Bucks County Community College – Upper Bucks Campus last month, PeerNet Bucks County was represented by two Certified Peer Specialists alongside two participants who helped share information about our work.

Together, they engaged attendees in meaningful conversations about peer support and the role of lived experience in recovery.

We’re grateful to Brently and Amy for their leadership at the table, and to the participants who helped amplify awareness, connection, and hope around suicide prevention and PeerNet Bucks County.

Connecting Beyond the Office

Last month, all four Philadelphia TCM units came together for a shared outing at Royal Buffet in South Philadelphia. A total of 47 participants and staff joined for a buffet lunch, creating space to connect, build relationships, and enjoy time together outside of the office setting.

Moments like these are a reminder of the importance of community. By stepping away from day-to-day routines, participants and staff had the opportunity to engage more freely, strengthen bonds, and support one another in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

These experiences reflect our ongoing commitment to creating more good days together, grounded in connection, inclusion, and shared support.

Staff events like this are one of the many ways we invest in connection and well-being across our team — part of why MHP has been awarded the 2026 Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health at the Platinum level by Mental Health America, marking our fourth consecutive year receiving this recognition.

International Dyslexia Association - Annual Conference

MHP was proud to participate last month in the 2026 International Dyslexia Association's Annual Conference on Reading, Literacy, and Learning Disabilities in Abington, Pennsylvania. Hosted by the Pennsylvania Branch of the IDA and Center School, the conference highlighted evidence-based practices in literacy, learning differences, social-emotional development, and advocacy.

We were pleased to share information about the training and support we provide on ADHD and co-occurring conditions. Pictured at center is Lydia D. Cooper, Program Manager, Family Education and Support at MHP, with Dr. Yvonne D'Uva Howard (left) IDA-PA Board Chair, and Melanie Young, Event Chairperson (right).

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to connect and learn more!

Community Connection at 69th St. Transportation Center

On May 4, MHP joined the SEPTA Police Department at 69th Street Station for a Mental Health Awareness event focused on connection, education, and community wellness.

From 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., participating agencies gathered to share mental health resources and information directly with community members in a highly accessible public space. The event also featured special appearances from the Philadelphia Flyers’ mascot Gritty, bringing added energy and visibility to an important message: mental health support is for everyone, everywhere.

Although table space was limited, MHP was present and engaged with attendees, sharing information about our services and connecting individuals to available supports and resources.

We appreciate the opportunity to take part in community-centered events like this that help reduce stigma, increase awareness, and meet people where they are.

Johnson & Johnson Leaders Volunteer at A New Life Recovery Learning Center

Last month, we were joined by a leadership team of volunteers from Johnson & Johnson at MHP’s A New Life Recovery Learning Center, who generously spent their day helping us repaint and refresh our space.

Their support helps create a more welcoming environment for the people who walk through our doors each day.

We’re grateful for partners who show up, roll up their sleeves, and invest in spaces that support mental health, healing, and connection. Thank you for being part of this work!

TRAINING

Recovery in Mind: Building Awareness of Schizophrenia and Tardive Dyskinesia is a self-paced course created to deepen understanding, challenge stigma, and promote early intervention through education and empathy. Grounded in evidence-based information and shaped by the perspectives of individuals with lived experience, this course invites learners to better understand what it truly means to live with schizophrenia and tardive dyskinesia (TD).

Throughout the 1.5-hour course, learners will explore common myths and misinformation, gain a clearer understanding of psychosis, and learn how stigma can create real and lasting harm for individuals and families. The course also takes a closer look at symptoms, risk factors, and treatment options for both schizophrenia and TD, helping learners build a more accurate and compassionate understanding of these conditions.

Through real-world scenarios and practical examples, learners will discover meaningful strategies for supporting someone living with schizophrenia, TD, or experiencing psychosis. By increasing awareness and centering lived experience, Recovery in Mind encourages empathy, reduces fear and misunderstanding, and empowers learners to be informed supporters.

ADVOCACY

Thank You, Trenita Lindsay & Joshua Kagi!

Last month, Pottstown Borough Council President Trenita Lindsay and 5th Ward Councilor Joshua Kagi visited our Recovery Learning Center in Pottstown to see our work in action and connect with the community we serve.

During their visit, they spent time learning about our programs, speaking with staff, and gaining a deeper understanding of how recovery-centered services create pathways to stability, connection, and hope. Opportunities like this help strengthen partnerships and ensure that the voices and needs of our participants are heard at the local level.

We’re grateful for their time, interest, and commitment to supporting recovery in the Pottstown community.

Senator Kane Visits Delco Project SHARE

Last month, Pennsylvania State Senator John Kane visited our Project Share Recovery Learning Center in Upper Darby and learned about the important work we do. Senator Kane spoke with our participants about his own journey of recovery and the people who supported him along the way. He also offered words of encouragement to participants on their own recovery journeys.

Thank you, Senator Kane, for your support.

Senator Nikil Saval Joins Outreach Team for Ride-Along

We were honored to welcome Pennsylvania State Senator Nikil Saval for a recent ride-along with Tanise Barnes and her team. The visit offered a meaningful, firsthand look at the realities of homeless outreach and the level of care, coordination, and commitment it takes to support our most vulnerable neighbors.

Following the experience, Senator Saval shared that the ride-along was an impactful learning opportunity and deepened his understanding of the work happening every day in our community.

We extend our thanks to Tanise Barnes, Program Manager of Community Based Services, A New Life & ACCESS Outreach, along with Richard Jackson and Fareeda Harper, for their leadership, compassion, and dedication in the field. Their work continues to make a difference where it matters most.
