What is the difference between
DBT & Mentalization?
By learning Mentalization family members will have a different perspective on how people with BPD think.
It will provide new tools for more effective methods of communication based on empathy, humility, compassion and a commitment to genuine, authentic communication.
DBT addresses how to change behavior. Mentalization focuses on changing how people think and appraise situations. It addresses relationship ruptures as they occur.
Family application of mentalization techniques teaches how to avoid or decrease the volatile reactions and behavioral cascades when the ability to think logically goes off line and emotions escalate.
