November 2022

November is National Scholarship Month. It is a great time to raise awareness of scholarship opportunities for students of all ages.

November is also an excellent time for seniors to begin the scholarship application process, if they have not done so already. Many scholarship providers are posting new scholarship information and competitions for the next academic year.

HEF's Senior Scholarships

HEF is now accepting applicants for the Senior Scholarship program! Twelfth grade students with aspirations of continuing their education after high school at a university, community or technical college can apply for scholarships ranging from $500 to $15,000.

Scholarships are awarded based on a variety of criteria such as GPA, field of study, financial need, challenges overcome, SAT/ACT scores, school, community service or extracurricular activity participation and vary from scholarship to scholarship

If you or your mentee have any questions regarding HEF's senior scholarship,

feel free to contact Angie Anthony at aanthony@educationfoundation.com

The scholarship application window is open through

How did you become involved with mentoring through Hillsborough Education Foundation?

I got involved through my company, McKinstry. We find it really important to make giving back to our community a priority. I’m so glad we found this opportunity.

What has been the most rewarding part of mentoring? I worked with kids during high school and college as a counselor at the Boys & Girls Club, so being able to get back into that has been awesome. It has also been great because I have a new perspective and previous experiences to share with my mentee about the college application process.

What do you believe is the key to being a quality mentor? Listening! I think it is the best form of communication.

When you are not spending time with your mentee, what else do you like to do in your free time? I have two awesome dogs that I spend a lot of time with and I also enjoy boating and golfing with my husband and friends as well.

What do you hope your mentee will learn from you? I hope that my mentee will learn patience, persistence, and the importance of communication.
