Merced County to Break Ground on New El Nido Fire Station

MERCED COUNTY—Merced County and its partners will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new El Nido Fire Station at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 30 at the current fire station site: 10537 Highway 59 in El Nido.

The new station represents a significant investment in public safety and emergency response capabilities for the El Nido community and surrounding areas. The facility will include three engine apparatus bays, four dormitories, a kitchen, living spaces, office space, a reception area with lobby, a fitness area, storage, and associated site improvements designed to support firefighters and enhance emergency operations for years to come.

"This project is an investment in the safety and well-being of our residents," said Supervisor Jim Pacheco, whose District 1 includes the community of El Nido. "This will be a modern facility that supports the critical work our firefighters do every day. I'm proud to celebrate this important milestone with the residents of El Nido."

Construction has been carefully planned to ensure there is no interruption to emergency services. The existing Fire Station 83 will remain fully operational throughout construction of the new facility. Demolition of the current station will occur during a subsequent phase of the project after the new station is complete.

"This groundbreaking reflects Merced County's continued commitment to investing in infrastructure that directly benefits our communities," said County Executive Officer Mark J. Hendrickson. "The new El Nido Fire Station will provide our firefighters with the resources they need while strengthening the County's ability to protect residents throughout the region."

The upgraded facility is designed to better meet the operational needs of Merced County Fire personnel while providing a safe, modern workspace that supports recruitment, retention, and emergency readiness.

"This new station will enhance our ability to serve the El Nido community and improve working conditions for our firefighters," said Merced County Fire Chief Chris Trindade. "We're excited to begin this next chapter and grateful for the support of the Board of Supervisors and the community as we continue building a stronger fire service for Merced County."

Community members, local leaders, and media representatives are invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony as Merced County marks the beginning of this new public safety project.
