(Elia Kazan, 1956) Considered shocking at the time of its release, Kazan's adaptation of the Tennessee Williams' play 27 Wagons Full of Cotton, tells a steamy Southern tale of a young woman (Carroll Baker) repressed in an unfulfilling marriage who gets caught in the rivalry between her failing businessman husband (Karl Malden) and a successful Italian immigrant (Eli Wallach).
