Welcome Back! Our students and staff were able to energetically and successfully return to normal routines and have a productive week of learning, caring, and sharing.
Cosmic Science Night was an eye opening, informational and engaging evening on Thursday. Thank you to the PTO for this putting together an amazing family night with displays from the Cleveland Botanical Gardens, Cleveland Snapology, Great Lakes Science Center and the Hathaway Brown Robotics Team. There were stations covering topics from Chemistry to Zoology sponsored by Mercer parents, guardians, and teachers. This event helped generate excitement for STEM activities at Mercer and explore them in a fun way!
There are circumstances that may keep a student from arriving to school on time at 9:05 a.m. like a doctor appointment, missing the bus, getting up late or not feeling well. Research has shown that students who are frequently tardy have disruption in not only their personal school routine but on that of their classroom as well. The morning is an important component to being organized and ready for the rest of the school day. Arriving on time demonstrates responsibility. Parents and guardians can teach children ways to be organized for the next day by setting out clothes, making lunches and putting items needed in their backpack the night before. Remember that students can arrive at 8:45 a.m. to eat breakfast.
Winter may not have arrived on the calendar but it certainly has in terms of the weather! Mercer students will go out for recess each day unless the temperature falls below 10 degrees fahrenheit with the wind chill, allowing for some flexibility due to wind, ice, and wet snow. Students must have proper winter wear like boots, snow pants, and gloves/mittens to play in the snow. Gloves that are water resistant are preferable because they keep their hands not only warm, but dry. Please remember to mark items with the owner’s name. This allows them to be returned in the event they are misplaced. This will allow Mercer students to have the fun of sledding, building snow forts, or making snow angels that can only be enjoyed this time of year!
