From Mr. Florence
Fall Parent/Teacher conferences were very successful and well attended. We were pleased to have met with many parents to set learning and behavior goals for this school year. We aspire to meet or conduct a phone conference with the parents and guardians of all Mercer students. Please reach out the classroom teacher via email or telephone if you were unable to attend during the conference period. These meetings are an integral component of your child’s education and help establish your partnership with the teacher and our school.

The Mercer Olympics Campaign kicked off this morning with great fanfare at the opening ceremony in the gymnasium. Mercer Olympics is the main school fundraiser which makes all PTO activities and events throughout the school year possible. We are counting on one hundred percent participation from every student. Donations from parents, grandparents, relatives and friends are welcome! Closing ceremonies will take place on Friday, October 26 at 2:15 p.m. where we hope to celebrate a record breaking year!

Third graders will take the American Institute for Research (AIR) English Language Arts test on Wednesday, October 24 and Friday, October 26. The schedule is posted on the Mercer page of www.shaker.org . Test sessions are each 90 minutes. Students should get a good night's rest, eat a nutritious breakfast, and come prepared to do their very best. We are asking for your help in not planning any out-of-school appointments during the testing period You can go to:

The Mercer School Fundraiser Begins Today, October 19!

We need YOU to make Mercer's only fundraiser a success! A letter was sent home last Friday, October 12 with information about the Mercer Olympics. This included a donation form for your student to record any donations he/she may collect and return in a sealed envelope, along with the donations, anytime between Monday, October 22 and Friday, October 26. Additional donation forms are available in the school office and on the Mercer web page. Donations can also be made via the Mercer web page!

Families are invited to attend the Mercer Olympics Opening Ceremony TODAY, Friday, October 19 at 9:45 am in the Mercer Gym. Please encourage your child to wear their grades assigned color to the Opening Ceremony and throughout the week of the Mercer Olympics. The assigned colors are: Pre-K and K, blue; 1st, black; 2nd, red; 3rd, yellow; 4th, green.

The Elementary   Homework Center  at Woodbury could be the answer. You can drop your child off for a ONE HOUR session with a certified teacher. There is no cost, and no appointment is necessary.

The center is open each week Monday–Thursday from 4:30-7:00.

You do not need to be a Mercer parent to participate in either program. Please encourage friends and family to register their cards and select Mercer Elementary School.  Money from both of these programs adds up quickly and helps the Mercer PTO provide additional programming for our kids.
