Thanksgiving is a hallmark of an authentic Christian life. Above all, let us not forget to thank: if we are bearers of gratitude, the world itself will become better, even if only a little bit, but that is enough to transmit a bit of hope. The world needs hope. And with gratitude, with this habit of saying thank you, we transmit a bit of hope. In a few weeks, our Sister Life Ministers (SLMs) and Institute Ministers (IMs) will conclude four years of leadership ministry. In anticipation of the end of their terms, the SLM Planning Workgroup, including Sisters Ginger Andrews, Mari Anto, Jude Kapp, Kathleen Keenan, Helen Libo-on and Joan Schwager, prepared a reflection to share with the Institute Leadership Team and all SLMs and IMs across the Institute. The virtual gathering on April 14 was an expression of gratitude to the SLMs and IMs. Sisters from across the Institute served as “bearers of gratitude” with messages to our sisters who served our community in those important leadership roles. This video shows those messages of thanks.

We have been blessed with extraordinary Mercy Leaders for four years. Let us celebrate them and the hope they share with us. The new cohort of SLMs and IMs will begin their ministry on July 1.

New pontiff shares ties with Mercy through his family and ministry

Sisters of Mercy joined Catholics around the world rejoicing at the news of a new pontiff, and even more so when they learned who it was. Pope Leo XIV has many ties to Mercy through his family and his ministries. 

Born on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, in the former Mercy Hospital and Medical Center at the corner of South Prairie Avenue and 34th Street, he is from the same city as our Institute President Sister Susan Sanders, a city with a strong Mercy presence. Read More

Register for prayer gathering for migrants and refugees

You shall treat the alien who resides with you no differently than the 

natives born among you; you shall love the alien as yourself;

The Institute Prayer and Ritual Committee will host a live prayer gathering for sisters, associates and companions in solidarity with our immigrant sisters and brothers on Wednesday, May 28, 7 p.m. Eastern time. Click here to register.

Module Four of LCWR’s Living into Our Emerging Future initiative available now

The Leadership Conference of Women Religious’ (LCWR) initiative Living into Our Emerging Future was designed for women religious to reflect on how they are being called to “live religious life to its fullest” and to imagine new possibilities for the future. The initiative will run through February 2026 and includes six modules. Hundreds of sisters from around the globe have participated already in the first three modules. 

Materials for Module Four, What Will Sustain Us as We Live Fully the Present and Move into the Future? are available now. Module Four will feature three Zoom sessions, with the first one taking place on July 1. All sisters are welcome and can register for individual sessions or all three. Mercy co-sponsors campaign advocating for immigrants' rights and economic justice

The Sisters of Mercy are proud co-sponsors of the upcoming multi-congregational campaign Sisters Speak Out: A Prayer and Public Witness for Immigrants and a Just Economy. 

Justice promoters across congregations have responded to the deep desire of sisters, associates and allies of women religious to act in light of our current government’s actions, including mass and unlawful deportations; the dismantling of public institutions and environmental protections; and the current budget debate that includes sweeping cuts to Medicaid and SNAP programs. Spring edition of Sharing Mercy available online 

The Institute Mission Advancement Office is proud to present the spring edition of its newsletter, Sharing Mercy.

The issue features stories from the Sisters of Mercy's ministry in India, starting in the 1950s and up to the important work Sister Marilyn Lacey is doing today with Mercy Beyond Borders (English only). You will meet donor Paul Rauch and learn how his ministry was inspired by the sisters he met in his youth. We also remember the sisters who have entered eternal life.

Jenn Hardin will serve as new project manager for Real Estate and Facilities

Jenn Hardin, currently the director of Administrative Services, will transition to a project management role for Real Estate and Facilities, effective June 6. She will report to Shannon McCowan, the director of Real Estate and Facilities, and remain in the Belmont office. 

Jenn has worked for the Sisters of Mercy for 30 years. Serving in a new project management role will enable her to bring her expertise and many talents to new areas. During the transition, she will work with the administrative services team to ensure all activities continue uninterrupted while the search for a new director is underway.

Jenn Hardin, actualmente directora de servicios administrativos, pasará a desempeñar funciones de gestión de proyectos para el departamento de bienes inmuebles e instalaciones, a partir del 6 de junio.
