Mercy Schools Distinguished for Closing the Gender Gap in Computer Sciences
Mercy Education is proud to announce that 15 Mercy schools have earned AP Computer Science Female Diversity Awards for the 2019-2020 school year.
Only 56 of the 20,000 institutions that offer AP courses earned this double distinction for closing the gender gap in both AP computer science courses.
Twelve Mercy schools earned one AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award:

For AP Computer Science Principles: Academy of Our Lady of Mercy, Lauralton Hall (Milford, Connecticut); Mercy Academy (Louisville, Kentucky); Mercy High School (Farmington Hills, Michigan); Mercy High School (Middletown, Connecticut); Mercy High School (Omaha, Nebraska); Merion Mercy Academy (Merion Station, Pennsylvania); Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School (Chicago, Illinois); Mount St. Mary Catholic High School (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma); Mount Saint Mary Academy (Watchung, New Jersey); Our Lady of Mercy Academy (Syosset, New York) and Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women (Rochester, New York).
The AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award honors schools who reached 50 percent or higher female representation in either of the two AP computer science courses in 2020, or whose percentage of female examinees met or exceeded that of the school’s female population in 2020.

Mercy Education Mourns Passing of Student
With great sadness we mourn the passing of Amber Augustine, a student at St. Catherine Academy (Belize City, Belize). Amber died on February 5, 2021. We pray:
Eternal Father, through the intercession of Mary, who bore your Son and stood by the cross as he died, grant to this school community in this time of grief the assistance of her presence, the comfort of her faith, and the reward of her prayers. Amen.

Con gran tristeza lamentamos el fallecimiento de Amber Augustine, una estudiante de la Academia de Santa Catalina (Ciudad de Belice, Belice). Amber murió el 5 de febrero de 2021. Oramos: Padre eterno, por intercesión de María, que dio a luz a tu Hijo y estuvo junto a la cruz cuando murió, otorga a esta comunidad escolar en este momento de dolor la ayuda de su presencia, el consuelo de su fe, y la recompensa de sus oraciones. Sisters of Mercy Release Statement on U.S. President Biden's Immigration-Focused Executive Orders
Sister Patricia McDermott, RSM, President of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, released the following statement on U.S. President Biden's recent immigration-focused Executive Orders:
“The immigration focused Executive Orders signed today by President Biden are a promising start in undoing the cruel policies that have torn families apart and caused so much harm. The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas particularly urge the Biden Administration to include in its review of 'root causes' deep reflection on how U.S. foreign policies have contributed to the violence and poverty from which people are fleeing. This is clear in Honduras, where U.S. security assistance has propped up a corrupt regime with a horrifying human rights record, for which support should be immediately ended.”

Las Hermanas de la Misericordia de las Américas instan particularmente a la Administración Biden a que incluya en su revisión de las ‘causas subyacentes’ una profunda reflexión sobre cómo las políticas exteriores de Estados Unidos han contribuido a la violencia y la pobreza de las que huye la gente. Good News and Great Opportunities

(Pictured above) "Walsingham Academy is special because we get to talk about God." Lower school students at Walsingham Academy (Williamsburg, Virginia) wrote and illustrated the reasons their school is so special in honor of Catholic Schools Week.
- "I really enjoy bringing God into our everyday life and having Him in the forefront as we continue to teach young people. I know it is through Him that we can inspire and help our students achieve great things." Julio Fernandez, Spanish teacher at Mercy High School (Baltimore, Maryland) was one of several faculty members who shared their testimony about working in a Catholic Mercy school in honor of Catholic Schools Week.

Mercy Junior College (Tubod, Lanao del Norte, Philippines) is working hard to ensure the well-being of students and families through tele and online counseling. This program ensures that members of the school community get the support they need, even when they cannot physically be in school due to pandemic restrictions.
