Welcoming New Faces!
Starting May 2 we will be welcoming Liz Rohdenburg as our new part time Young Adult Librarian. Many of you may know Liz from The Fitness Edge where she has been a popular Zoomba instructor radiating positive energy for fifteen years. Others may know her from her many years volunteering for the library. She is the Treasurer of the Friends, ran numerous fundraisers and served on the library’s Master Plan Committee. She also co-chaired the Friends Outreach committee and donned costumes such as “Lady Library”, “Pete the Cat” and “Super Dog” to promote summer reading.
You may not know that she worked with teens at the Winni Playhouse helping them to produce original plays, was a scout leader who led numerous programs and activities over the years and volunteered as a mentor for children who had become wards of the state. She also served as President of the PTO. She enjoys reading Young Adult literature and already has a lot of great ideas on how to connect teens with the library.
“My vision for the YA program is to create a safe, inclusive environment for young adults to explore, learn, and grow; to foster a love of reading and learning by offering a diverse collection of books, resources, and engaging programming that reflects the unique needs and interests of our community. I aim to empower our young adults to be critical thinkers, avid readers, and lifelong learners,” Liz said.
Liz is hitting the ground running. Star Wars Day is May 4 and she already has her costume planned and developed a quiz to go along with other events planned by the staff. She has developed a survey to go out to the schools in order to find out from students, teachers and parents what they want from the library. She has ideas for new clubs, an afterschool homework space and ways of incorporating her graphic design, drama and technology experience into new activities at the library.
Joining us in the Children’s Room is Anna Greenwood, who will be helping out Miss Karen. Anna is working on her Masters in Library and Information Science and has been working with children for many years in an after school program.
