The renovation of the historic library building and the 1980’s addition continues. Due to supply issues and labor shortages related to COVID-19, the completion date is delayed and is now tentatively set for early November. The good news is that our new shelving is ready. Installation will begin on Monday, August 30. The library will close on Tuesday, August 31 and reopen on Friday, September 3 at 9AM.
All of the shelving for the children’s room is due in and the staff will then be filling those shelves. We are also expecting the rest of the DVD and Audio book shelving and most of the Large Print shelving. A few of our special pieces have been delayed. These pieces have built-in seating and the manufacturer has not been able to get the foam needed to create the seating. Our display shelving and large print shelving therefore will be delayed and we don’t have a date for that yet.
Work has begun on the installation of the glass wall around the historic balcony to separate that room from the circulation area below it.
The original hardwood floors from the historic library are in pretty good shape. There are some holes that need to be repaired that were created for wiring and electrical during the 80’s renovation, but for the most part they are in excellent shape and are slated for restoration in September. Framing is almost complete in the Maker Space and Teen Room and a good portion of the electrical has been completed.
Work on our front patio, walkway and historic granite stairs will begin in mid to late September. We will continue to keep you posted on the renovation progress and thank you for your patience.
