Issue: # 5 of the 2012 DerbyJanuary / 2012

Greetings!

The Meredith Rotary Fishing Derby scheduled for February 11th and 12th is just less than a month away!  The Fishing Derby Committee has been praying for ice and it appears our prayers are being answered.  Ice-in on Winnipesaukee was declared this past Sunday and despite the mild weather we've got fishable ice in Central and Northern New Hampshire, with more below freezing overnight temperatures in the forecast.  So make your travel plans and purchase your tickets online today.

ICE-In on Winnipesaukee!

 Ice In Jan 22 2012

On Sunday, January 22nd a Dave Emerson of Emerson Aviation declared ice-in on Lake Winnipesaukee!  Derby Chairman Tracy Aquilla reports, "It's still thin out in the Broads, but once the lake locks-in like this, it usually takes strong wind to break it up.  As long as we don't have long, clear sunny days, I don't think the predicted daytime temps are critical. The night temps look pretty good!"

We want to remind anglers that first and foremost, always use caution when heading out onto frozen lakes and ponds, we've received reports of fishable ice, but you can never be too cautious.  We urge anglers to review the NH Fish & Game Ice Safety Brochure on how to properly judge the ice.
