"In God We Trust"

Survey from the Action and Justice Team |
The Action and Justice Team would very much like to have your input into our Social Action Planning. We have provided a short (two-question) survey to get your input.
Prior to completing this survey, please review our congregational Values, Mission, and Ends (see pdf file here). We are trying to align our social action work with our values, mission, and ends. Also, the survey is asking for what we as a congregation should do, not what any of us as individuals might be interested in doing on our own.
Please respond by Friday, March 14, so that the Action and Justice Team can keep the planning process moving.
If you have any questions, please contact me or Laures Young (lauresyoung@gmail.com), Action and Justice Team Chair.

| March 11: Conversations at the Edge of Hope: Toward a UU Theology of Collapse | “Conversations at the Edge of Hope” meets second Tuesdays from 6:30-8pm in Room 7 (lower level) at UCCNB. Led by MW member David Weiss, these conversations reflect Merging Waters’ commitment to bring our values of mindful interdependence, authentic curiosity, and courageous love to the very challenging topic of climate crisis. I am determined but tentative regarding our March session. My cancer surgery is on March 5, just 6 days prior to this. But I want to meet on March 11—in person—because this work is part of my healing. If it turns out I’m not up to this, I’ll announce this as soon as I know. I already have an essay ready to share. For March 11, please read “Toward a UU Theology for Collapse.” This is a little pause in our larger work, but it’s an important opportunity for me to share some of my first specifically UU thinking. And a chance for you (whether you’re UU or not!) to help me sense what’s clear and useful, where I need to work harder, and what just misses altogether. I believe it will make for excellent conversation. I put a few discussion questions up on my blog ahead of time. Join us on March 11, on site or online in our Zoom room. Contact David (drw59mn@gmail.com) with questions. RSVPs are welcome, but not required. |

The consensus process is essential to the development of League position statements that reflect the views of members. For this grassroots process to be effective, we need as many New Brighton Area league members as possible to attend this very important meeting. If you are out of town or need a ride, let us know. | March Worship Theme "Trust" |
In religious circles, talk of trust most often revolves around having faith that life will look after us. For instance, our Christian friends sing hymns about God “watching over us” and keeping “an eye on the sparrow.” Our Jewish friends lift up the Exodus story to encourage faith that God will help us make our way even when things look bleak. Likewise, prayer practice for our Muslim friends is all about reminding oneself that you are in Allah’s safe hands. We UUs voice similar
sentiments through the language of trusting “a Love that will not let us go.”

Meet at the Doug & Michele's
BOOK: Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher: The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward Curtis by Timothy Eagan, 364 pages. Published in 2013.
Edward Curtis was charismatic, handsome, a passionate mountaineer, and a famous portrait photographer, the Annie Leibovitz of his time. He moved in rarefied circles, a friend to presidents, vaudeville stars, leading thinkers. But when he was thirty-two years old, in 1900, he gave it all up to pursue his Great Idea: to capture on film the continent’s original inhabitants before the old ways disappeared.
