May 2022

  • News from the Annual Meeting: The HOA board would like to welcome resident Jill Gura, and previous board member, Deborah MacDonald, as the new elects for the two available board positions. Commissioner Ann Howard invited all residents to contact her with any questions or concerns pertaining to Travis County and the southwest Austin area. You may contact her Chief of Staff Vicki Ashley, at Vicki.Ashley@traviscountytx.gov

  • Surveillance Cameras are in place. Following the neighborhood survey in 2021 and the recent approval of a camera system, the HOA has installed surveillance cameras in the pool, pavilion, and parking lot of the amenity center. The cameras are not monitored but are recording. The HOA will amend the HOA Handbook to add formal policies for the use of cameras and the pool and to update the HOA’s fine schedule for violations of HOA policies. The HOA intends for the cameras to increase safety and reduce vandalism and rule violations.

  • Help keep property values high Please take a moment to look around your property and make improvements as needed. Clean up flower beds, trim and prune all dead brush, keep fences in good repair, store shoe racks, bikes, toys, and garbage cans in your garage or out of sight, and power wash your home where there are stains from mold and algae. The HOA will be working with the management team in the next few months to impose property clean-ups to keep our neighborhood looking sharp!

  • Large Brush and Bulk Trash on hold As of February 21, 2022, Austin Resource Recovery (ARR), a department of the City of Austin, has suspended large brush and bulk collection for residential curbside customers until further notice. These suspensions are attributable to staffing shortages related to COVID-19 and difficulty filling open vacancies.

  • For those seeking alternatives during the suspension of curbside collections for brush and bulk items, ARR is asking customers to drop off large brushes at the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant if possible. Curbside customers are encouraged to donate or gift unwanted bulk items in good condition or hold on to them until service resumes. Austinites may also schedule a collection through ARR’s Clothing and Housewares program at no additional charge. Additional disposal options can be found in ARR's 'What Do I Do With...' tool.

MERIDIAN CALENDAR: MAY AND JUNE EVENTS
Finally, one of Meridian’s favorite events is back in its usual fashion! The Memorial Day Meat Mafia Charity BBQ. For those that don’t know, this is a group of dedicated men in the neighborhood who stay up all night to grill delicious BBQ and serve it up to residents all in the name of charity. This event started in 2017 when Hurricane Harvey devasted the Houston area. This year’s charity is the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and 100% of the proceeds will go to them. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. A suggested donation is $20 per adult plate, less for children. Bring a chair and plan to spend the afternoon to play in the cornhole tournament, with entry fees donated to NAMI and a first-place prize.
