As I complete my first month as your new ABC NorCal Chapter President, I’m excited to share and could not be prouder of the accomplishments our apprentices and student chapter received ABC’s 74^th Annual Convention a few weeks back.

ABC NorCal’s carpentry apprentice, Andre Blaine Morton, placed bronze in carpentry at ABC’s 35^th National Craft Championships.

Morton recently started his 4^th year in our carpentry apprenticeship program and when asked about preparing and how the actual National competition went, Morton said, “Every time I worked on the job site, studied from the book, or attended class, essentially helped me prepare for competing at Nationals. Before knowing the results, I figured I did average amongst the rest of the competitors and didn’t expect to place. I was a bit shocked when I heard my name called, it felt good. I was grateful for the opportunity and help that ABC NorCal gave me and the support from my loved ones”.

Morton has worked for Carr’s Construction Service, Inc., S W Allen Construction, Inc., H&W Nor-Cal Builders, CNW Construction, Inc. and W.E. Lyons Construction Co.. He is currently working for Deacon Construction, LLC.

ABC NorCal’s student chapter at Fresno State University sent a team who ultimately placed in three different categories at the Construction Management Competition. This competition provides college teams with the opportunity to experience a real-world construction project with rare project components and issues that arise. Our team finished 2^nd place overall, 3^rd in safety and 1^st in the project management category.
