Fallis Trophy Found!
It is amazing what you can find in your basement when you are cleaning out old boxes! Requesting anonymity, this former Chapter President and curler (whose name you just might see in the pictures at the link - just sayin') found the trophy in a bout of fall cleaning.

Skeptical. Doubting. Negative. Adjectives that are typically used (perhaps by sales staff) describe so many of us who work in credit, accounting and finance. In fact on my first week on the job I was described as part of the "Revenue Prevention Department".
How do you combat that? Well, being merry helps. well, OK, no one actually describes anyone as "merry" any more - how about being "fun", "friendly", "approachable"? I find it has been very effective in combatting the old stereotypes about us financial peeps. Most people are just trying to cope with their day. Adding just a little bit of joy helps and is appreciated.
On behalf of the board, I wish you all joy and merriment this Christmas season.
President
PS - "winter is coming"...have you thought about committing to the Chapter and serving on our board? We need you!

Seminar
On Thursday, October 29, 2015, members and friends came out and attended our free dinner meeting. Jay Myshkowsky, Managing Director of Accountants Now (a Pinnacle company), provided us with new ideas on Hiring Strategies. A way to look beyond the resume and find those hidden gems, if you will.
We learned that the workplace is always evolving and they way we need to advertise job positions, submit resumes need to change as well. It was a fantastic session!
If you have any suggestions for seminars, please let us know!

Staff turnover at the National Office has delayed more recent membership reports, but the report for the period ended September 2015 is linked below. Overall the Manitoba Chapter has 91 members at the end of September (compared to 99 last year).
The change is really a reduction of students. National has reviewed the database and removed students who were not active. Overall we are up 7 paying members and down 14 unpaid members (13 students and 1 honourary member).

National
After a lengthy discussion the reorganization of the National Board was approved at the 2015 AGM. National had found that the structure of the National Board was cumbersome and was facing increasing difficulty in finding qualified volunteers.
The National Board will be made up of 8 National Directors (in addition to the position of Chair, President & Dean) representing regions and not individual chapters. The regions and number of Directors are as follows: BC (1); Prairies (2); Ontario (3); Quebec (1) and Atlantic (1).
The Western Forum, National Forum and the Education Foundation will now be considered part of their respective regions and participate in the election of one of the 8 National Directors.
Directors will be elected for a two-year term and be allowed to sit for three consecutive terms. The three-person Executive Committee (Chair, Vice President and Treasurer) is elected annually by the National Directors.
Changes will be effective as of the elections at the 2017 AGM.

Financial
Our financial health continues to perform as expected. In the last couple of months we have received $1,400 in sponsorship dollars (Gold Sponsors, National Leasing and D&B and Grad Sponsors Equifax and TransUnion - thank you!).
As you know we hold approximately $30,000 in investments (GICs), and two renewed this past November. Our investments are structured such that $10,000 matures every year to allow us predictable cash availability if needed.
