This Saturday, 12/7, from 1pm to 5pm.
Neighbors in the historic residential areas between the Courthouse on the Square and the University of North Texas started a project six years ago to “light the way” for safe travel along West Oak and West Hickory Streets. The project means to connect the downtown Square with neighborhoods and the UNT campus.
In collaboration with Denton Municipal Electric, the neighborhoods fund street lamps, which cost $2,000 per pole, with DME providing installation and maintenance.
In an effort to support this community project, the neighborhood began the Historic Denton Home Tour on the first Saturday of December. Several residents who live in the historic district decorate their homes for the season and open their doors to tourists.
The addition of 36 historic-style streetlamps is an ongoing project of Historic Denton Inc., with a current focus on West Hickory Street, followed by other neighborhood streets.
When patrons buy a ticket to the home tour, they’re helping the district buy one more new “old” streetlight.
The annual home tour, which first began in 2014, will be from 1 to 5 p.m Saturday.
$25 adults. $5 students. Children 12 and younger are free.
