Covid Safety Precautions:
In charity for one another, due to the recent Covid uptick, I ask everyone to please follow the following safety protocols:
- Please wear a mask in Church, whether or not you have been vaccinated. Please wear it CORRECTLY – covering your nose and chin completely. Thank you!
- Do not come to Mass if…
- If you are not feeling well, or if you experience any of the following symptoms (fever, or head cold or sore throat, or non-allergy related runny nose).
- If you have been exposed to someone with Covid, and either of you were not properly masked. Or WITH PROPER MASK COVERING you were in the company of someone with Covid for more than just a couple minutes. Please refrain from coming to Mass until you get a negative Covid test.
- If you are uncertain then it is best to stay home until you get a negative Covid test.
- If you are feeling well but one of the above scenarios are yours, then refrain from entering church, but right after Mass, Fr Joseph would be happy to go outside and bring Holy Communion to you just outside of the church, either in your car or if you have no car then right outside of the church (a little away from others). Simply wait with mask on in your car (or if no car, just outside of church) and ask someone to let Fr know that you are waiting for Communion. Earlier that morning before the Mass, contact one of the staff to alert Fr Joseph to your need.
If you need Covid testing, particularly at this time when travel and Christmas gatherings requirements have overloaded the testing sites - go to the Essex County College at 177 West Market St, Newark. They use the new saliva PCR, developed by Rutgers & Yale. This is directly sponsored by the Federal government and uses a lab that is also directly under their management. It is easy - no need to poke the nose, very little wait time at the testing sites and apparently markedly reliable in their results It usually takes 24 hours to get results. Newark received Federal funds for all these testing sites, so take advantage of the availability. See below for other places in Newark. It does say only for Newark residents, but for the one at Essex County College, they don’t require this and also no requirement for insurance or ID.

Tuesday - Saturday 9-3pm
WEDDINGS. Contact the parish office one year in advance of the proposed marriage date.
INFANT BAPTISM. Expectant parents should call the office to register for the baptism of your baby. Most of our baptisms take place during Sunday Mass.
CATECHISM CLASSES FOR CHILDREN - take place on Sundays, from 8:15am to 9:15am.

Daily Rosary at 7pm on Zoom.
Every Tuesday at 8pm, we have Scripture Study- in person & on Zoom ( following the 7pm Rosary, using same Zoom link). This is mainly focused on the upcoming Sunday Mass readings, based on the video series, "Mass Readings Explained" by Dr Brant Pitre, who is a renowned & insightful Bible scholar, followed by discussions. More inside.
Come in person for our Midweek Wednesday Prayer Meeting at 8pm. If you cannot come in person, join us on Zoom. Ken Julien is back in person leading the praise songs! More info inside.
Join our Cleaning Ministry which meets every second Saturday of the month to do a general cleaning of the Church. Call Doris Okolie at 347 748 502, coordinator of this mission of love & fellowship.

A letter from Fr Joseph:
Christmas 2021
Dear brothers and sisters in Jesus,
How our hearts ache for the peace of Bethlehem! Just listen and imagine the majesty of that night in Bethlehem as narrated by St Luke (Luke 2: 8-11)
“ And in that region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. And the angel said to them, “Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
But today there is very little peace in the world - only terrorism, war, conflict, violence, natural disasters, sickness, fear, fatigue, distrust, separation and alienation from one another, and that deep darkness of sin that only grace (God’s love) can heal.
It is hard to think of Christmas in these times.
But the followers of Jesus have nowhere else to go—“To whom shall we go, Lord!”—except Bethlehem to receive the Peace that the world cannot give.
Today there is no room in the inn for so many people in the world and in the womb and sometimes even in our hearts. We who have received the light & peace of Jesus Emmanuel, have been called to open our hearts to the weary, to the lost and to the abandoned. Perhaps we feel that our light and our peace are too fragile. Then this is even more a time to go to Bethlehem, to the Light and to the only source of peace that the world cannot give. But for sure, this not a time to close in, to conserve, to hide, or worse to “hoard” this gift, this treasure of faith in Our Lord.
As we enter this Christmas season, take a few moments of silence with the Lord. Then resolve to tell someone about “The Reason for the Season.” Rather than cursing the darkness of evil all around us, light a candle of faith for someone else to find their way to the Savior. This Christmas, invite someone to join you at Mass and at your table or bring them some hot food right from your oven. Don’t be afraid to show his love.
Pope Francis declared March 19, 2021 to June 30, 2022 The Year of The Family. The Sunday after Christmas is the Feast of the Holy Family. May our families be inspired by the humility, tender love and faithful embrace of the Father’s will by the Holy Family, even in the midst of great suffering
