Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Best Wishes for the Holidays and the New Year

As we get ready to say goodbye to 2024, I wanted to take this opportunity to share how truly blessed I feel to represent you on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Thank you to all of you who reached out to our office with your problems, issues, thoughts and solutions. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office if there’s anything I can do for you or if you have thoughts on how to make Fairfax County a better place for us all.

Please keep those that are serving to protect our nation, those in our public safety family that protect our neighborhoods and those less fortunate in your thoughts and prayers this holiday season. I hope that you and your loved ones have a wonderful, safe holiday season! My Springfield District Office and I wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and the very best of this holiday season and in the New Year!

While the year was full of addressing challenges, I wanted to take a moment to share just a few of this year’s highlights…

We kicked off the year with our annual teen job fair in the spring, which provided our high school students the opportunity to get their first job as well as learn from workshops how to polish their resume and job-seeking skills.

It was a year full of moving over $600 million in transportation projects in the Springfield District forward. These projects will add capacity, reduce congestion, improve safety, add sidewalks, and more. We were able to reduce a delay in the Rolling Road widening project and collected important resident input on a number of projects that led to positive changes. Facilitating community and engagement meetings alongside county and state agencies can be very rewarding, as it allows all agencies to have a clearer view of the residents’ concerns and needs, and for that I am truly grateful.

I was honored to be named the Gazette Newspaper’s Best Public Servant in Fairfax County for the eighth year in a row.

We also hosted a Bike to Work/School Day pit stop at the West Springfield Government Center, where many riders stopped by for breakfast and freebies. I enjoyed the dialogue with the cyclists, many of whom shared positive comments and also made suggestions for improvements in our Active Transportation network.

With the support of our many sponsors, we also brought nine free concerts to Burke Lake Park, where friends, families, and dogs enjoyed an evening of music, food trucks, ice cream, and more. I look forward every year to these concert series, and I know many of you do too.

As part of our summer fun, I participated in the National Night Out. Thank you to the Springfield District community that hosted over 20 events and a special thank you to those who hosted us, the men and women of our Police Department who made these events possible, and the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and other public safety agencies that joined us. It was great to see many faces and also see the community’s support of our Police Department.

In the Community – Christmas and Holiday Lights Edition!

The County is full of great Christmas and holiday light displays – from the professional displays at Bull Run Park and Burke Lake Park, to local businesses, to neighborhood displays to individual house displays. Here are some of my favorite displays in and near the Springfield District:

I am moved by how each incorporates an American flag into their display.

10108 Marshall Pond Road, Burke – a yearly favorite, an entire pipestem full of fully decked houses.

6410 Glenbard Road, Burke – tune your radio to hear and see an impressive light display set to a wide variety of holiday music.

Cardinal Plaza Shell – a professional light display set to music – park in front of Einstein Bagels and tune your radio to 88.1 to enjoy the show.

13641 South Springs Drive – another entire pipestem full of fully decked houses. Be sure to look for Santa moving around inside one of the houses.

6302 South Springs Circle – an incredible display in simple white lights.

Other Incredible Displays

Please share if you have any favorites!
