A Calling to Africa
by Krissy Berry
Beneath the shade of jacaranda trees,
Where blossoms flutter on a Copperbelt breeze,
A family of faith took a bold, loving stand,
To bring God’s light to a distant land.
With hearts on fire and a mission divine,
Four daughters followed, their stars aligned.
Parents leading with courage and grace,
Called to Africa, a sacred space.
From Victoria Falls, with its roaring might,
To the bush aglow in the morning light,
They built churches and schools, spreading God’s care,
A Bible college rising through earnest prayer.
A school for the deaf, an orphanage’s embrace,
A medical clinic, love etched on each face.
Malaria struck, but they stood undeterred,
Guided by hope and God’s living Word.
Adventures awaited—wild safaris to roam,
Elephants wandering their African home.
Sunsets ablaze, the sky kissed with gold,
Tales of a journey forever retold.
Four sisters, so gifted, each with her art,
Musical, creative, and brimming with heart.
Cooking together, their laughter would rise,
Friendships and holidays, shared joyful ties.
Movies, coffee, and travels afar,
Under the banner of the Morning Star.
Their father, once a baseball star of renown,
Now a pastor and missionary of profound.
Like David Livingstone, he charted the way,
Spreading Christ’s love, day after day.
Through trials and triumphs, they gave their all,
Answering faithfully their heavenly call.
Africa shaped them, its beauty, its strife,
Etched into their hearts for the rest of their life.
A family united, their legacy clear—
A story of love, adventure, and cheer.
With Jesus their compass, their mission was done,
Four daughters, a family, God’s will as one.
A life well-lived in the heart of the land,
Forever held in His guiding hand.
