Greetings from The Georgetown Project

Holiday greetings from The Georgetown Project!

I hope you are well and embracing the spirit of the season. As 2023 to a draws to a close, I just want to say thanks. Thanks for your enthusiasm and big ideas that challenged us to serve in new and better ways. Thanks for your generosity that made a difference for someone you never met. Thanks for believing in our vision that “Georgetown will become a community where no child is hungry, hurt, alone or rejected, and where all children and youth believe they are loved, respected and treated with dignity.” Thanks for opening your heart to those we serve. In short, thanks for being you. We are truly grateful for every single gift that you shared with The Georgetown Project this year.

Your contributions this year played a critical role. With your help, we served over 2,500 children, youth and families, and provided over 30,000 individual services. I hope you will look over our holiday message and annual highlights report. Click here to see the full report.

Behind the numbers are the faces of young people—cradle to career—whose lives are better because you made an investment in their safety, their health, their education, their employment, their parents……their future.

Looking ahead, we must sustain and grow our flagship programs in order to meet the demand for services, including:

  • Bridges to Growth Parent Center, where we help parents find support and skills in raising their young children.
  • NEST Empowerment Center & Shelter Services, where we provide safe, trauma-informed spaces, evening meals, basic needs, case management, temporary emergency shelter/housing, and other supportive services for at-risk/homeless high school students. We remain steadfast in our goal for students to graduate high school with a positive plan for their future.
  • Summer Youth Employment Program, which provides job readiness training and career exploration for at-risk high school students, as well as an 8-week summer job in our work site partners across the community.
  • For almost 27 years, nonprofits serving youth and families in our community continue to connect and collaborate through The Georgetown Project Collaborative for Children.

I am inspired by our hard-working staff, who show up every day with a smile to ensure that we operate with professionalism, compassion and respect for our colleagues, clients and donors. We are also fortunate to have a Board of Directors that encourages innovation and prioritizes the promise in every child.

Recently in a group activity exploring the concept of gifts and money management, a high school student at our NEST Empowerment Center was asked what gift under $5 they need or want. One young woman answered simply “a hug.” Truly, every gift matters to us.

As 2023 draws to a close, I hope you will consider a gift to The Georgetown Project. Together, we can sustain and grow important programs and partnerships that help youth grow into caring, capable and resilient young adults.

With sincere gratitude and best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
