The Jesse Tree and Christmas Decorations

Advent and the Placement of the Jesse Tree in the Garden of Precious Love

Our Lady of the Rosary marks the beginning of the Holy Advent Season with the presentation of the Jesse Tree in the Garden of Precious Love on the cemetery grounds. The Jesse Tree is placed on the west side of the baby garden and can be seen from the road.

The Jesse Tree represents the family tree, or genealogy of Jesus Christ. It tells the story of God's salvation plan, beginning with creation and continuing through the Old Testament, to the coming of the Messiah. The name comes from Isaiah 11:1, "A shoot will spring forth from the stump of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots."

Family members are encouraged to place an ornament on the tree in memory of their loved one interred at Our Lady. The Jesse Tree remains in the garden through the Epiphany which occurs 12 days after Christmas. In 2025, the Epiphany falls on Monday, January 6.

If anyone wishes to keep the ornament they place on the Jesse Tree, the ornament must be removed by the end of the day, Sunday, January 5, 2025. The Jesse Tree will be removed from the cemetery at the end of the day on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Removal of Christmas Decorations after the Holidays

Like the Jesse Tree, this is notice that families who have Christmas decorations on their spaces also need to remove all holiday decorations by the end of Monday, January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany. Following the Epiphany, Our Lady's clean-up committee will be visiting each garden in a timely manner to remove all decorations and items not in compliance with the rules and regulations of the cemetery. Please help pass this information to relatives and friends who do not receive this newsletter but are frequent visitors to the cemetery.

This year several families have placed small Christmas or fir trees in containers on their loved one's burial plot. Since trees are not allowed to be planted in the interior of the cemetery, families can donate these Christmas trees to Our Lady, which will be planted in a designated area between the Holy Family Garden and the St. Francis Natural Burial Garden. Over time, this area will resemble the entrance to the cemetery, as well as add beauty and color to Our Lady.
