Advent and the Placement of the Jesse Tree in the Garden of Precious Love
Our Lady of the Rosary marks the beginning of the Holy Advent Season with the presentation of the Jesse Tree in the Garden of Precious Love on the cemetery grounds. The Jesse Tree is placed on the west side of the baby garden and can be seen from the road.
The Jesse Tree represents the family tree, or genealogy of Jesus Christ. It tells the story of God's salvation plan, beginning with creation and continuing through the Old Testament, to the coming of the Messiah. The name comes from Isaiah 11:1, "A shoot will spring forth from the stump of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots."
Family members are encouraged to place an ornament on the tree in memory of their loved one interred at Our Lady. The Jesse Tree remains in the garden through the Epiphany which occurs 12 days after Christmas. In 2024, the Epiphany falls on Saturday, January 6.
If anyone wishes to keep the ornament they place on the Jesse Tree, the ornament must be removed by the end of the day, Sunday, January 7, 2024. The Jesse Tree will be removed from the cemetery on Monday, January 8, 2024.
Families that have decorations on their spaces also need to remove all holiday decorations by the end of Sunday, January 7th.
Small Christmas trees must be in containers and stay in the containers. Even though the trees are beautiful and a symbol of your love, trees are not allowed to be planted in any garden at Our Lady. When trees are planted near the headstone, after time the root system interferes with stability of the stone and future installations in neighboring spaces.
The planting of trees is also referenced in the Rules and Regulations on our website.
