Garrett Ehlers - Sioux City
In 2020 I decided to answer a calling to switch from full-time church ministry to full-time sports ministry with FCA. I am excited to use my background in sports, coaching, athletes, and Jesus to help people grow in their love and identity in Christ. I love building relationships with people and helping to encourage them on their journey and challenge them in how to grow closer to Christ. I have started to reach out and start to build some of these foundational relationships and can't wait to see where the journey takes us. My wife of five years, Maddie, and our newborn daughter, Millie, being with me on this journey makes it so much sweeter. God is good.

Michael DeJong - Sioux Center
2020 has been my first year with FCA. This year has been a great year for building the foundation for the ministry of FCA in Sioux County. This is a great area to be able to serve coaches and athletes through FCA. I have connected with many coaches and athletes and we have implemented character coaches, started new FCA huddles and much more. It has been a great first year and anxious for the years to come!

Bruce Held - Hinton
My name is Bruce Held, and I serve as an FCA Field Ambassador for northwest Iowa. I am responsible to call on Akron-Westfield, Hinton, and Kingsley-Pierson schools. I started in October of 2019, had a knee replacement surgery on November 5, 2019, and then just when I was getting back on my feet, Covid-19 hit in March and put a screeching halt to most, if not all of my FCA activities. We are still dealing with the pandemic, but we are starting to make strides to getting back to “normalcy.” Just when it looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel, we seem to always suffer setbacks. God is definitely in control of this pandemic, and He will move in His own time.
I live on a farm just outside of Hinton, Iowa with my wife of 43 years, Barb. We raised three wonderful children who all have families of their own and have blessed us with 8 grandchildren. I worked as a farmer, and then as a teacher/coach for 40 years at Hinton Community Schools, serving as a middle school math teacher, a PE and Health teacher, and I coached 3 sports, before retiring in 2019. Barb is an office manager at a medical clinic in Sioux City, and she has been with that clinic for over 30 years. She continues to work each day. We are excited to see what FCA is doing in NW Iowa!

Bruce Dagel - Cherokee
This has been an interesting year to say the least but in a time of so many unknowns and restrictions I see growth happening in Cherokee County! I have been blessed to come alongside coaches and athletes sharing the Good News and resourcing them with bibles and study materials throughout the year. Our FCA goals encourage us to Engage, Equip and Empower coaches and athletes and oh boy have we all figured out new ways to engage. I’ve never seen the inside walls of so many homes than I have this year. I’m extremely excited for the discipleship team being assembled for God. I’m reminded of this from 2 Thessalonians 2:8 “We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you have become so dear to us.” Thank you for supporting the ministry!

Brent Meyer - Newell
Why do I enjoy FCA? I enjoy being part of NW Iowa FCA because I am doing my part to expand the Kingdom of God while on earth, as it is in Heaven. Whether it is through financial giving or serving with athlete huddles, I know we are making a difference. Many coaches and athletes are looking for an anchor in their lives, and NW Iowa FCA can be that anchor. I enjoy the friendships with other board members as they encourage me in my walk with Christ.

Roger Sommerlot - Pocahontas
Having recently retired from teaching and coaching I never imagined the joy there would be in working with coaches in area schools. God has opened many doors for individual contact and coaches huddles meeting for encouragement, engagement and empowerment with the Gospel. Working with the NW Iowa FCA team has also been a blessing as they are a source of encouragement, resources, and prayer partners. Being involved in this ministry has given me a purpose and a reason to get up in the morning! (Especially Adam’s 6 am meetings!!!). Proverbs 27:17 says “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another”. This sharpening is happening over NW Iowa within our staff and the coaches and athletes we serve! God is good, all the time!

I am excited about each and every one of these men! I am glad they answered their call to GO make disciples through the ministry of FCA! Each one has their own unique God-given gifts and talents that they are using to advance the Kingdom!
My goals for NW Iowa’s are to continue to search for those called to sports ministry as a way to glorify God! Raise funds so that we can be good stewards of what God has provided. Engage volunteers that want to serve our Lord through FCA.
Thank you very much to all of you that have been praying for us! Thank you to all of our many volunteers! Thank you to everyone that Partners with us financially! Without you answering the call this would not be possible! If you would like to get involved with NW Iowa FCA in some way please reach out to me and we can get you plugged in!
Have a Merry Christmas!
