"And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:

'Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests.'"
Luke 2:13-14

May the peace and blessings of Christmas be yours, and may the coming year be filled with hope, joy and love.

The art for our Christmas 2020 card was created by senior Cecilia Castro. We asked that she artistically depict the theme of Peace on Earth.

"Because of the current turmoil in the world, I loved the idea," she said. "When I heard 'peace,' my immediate thought was to draw a dove. I knew I wanted the piece to be simple and understandable, something that would symbolize peace for everyone who saw it."

Serve the Dear Neighbor Without Distinction
Giving back is a fundamental part of an Academy education. As an expression of the charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph, education at St. Joseph’s Academy emphasizes the importance of relationships with the dear neighbor. The service component of our curriculum is one way we encourage our students to express God’s love and answer the call to service and discipleship within our school community and in the context of the broader world.

Archbishop John Michael Miller, former secretary of the Congregation for Catholic Education at the Vatican in Rome, said a Catholic education “should awaken in students a genuine passion for justice and a desire to be moral and responsible citizens of the world.”

Take a look at the details below for some of the ways our students have served the dear neighbor within our Baton Rouge community recently.

Citizens of a Global World
Our students discover a world of opportunities through travel and cultural immersion, creating active and compassionate global citizens. SJA students are offered numerous opportunities, both domestically and abroad, to be immersed in the history, culture, values and lifestyles of citizens around the world. Through these transformative experiences, our young women are able to connect with others in meaningful ways as they become increasingly aware of the world around them and their responsibility to make it a better place.

It is our desire that Academy graduates are engaged and caring citizens who embrace the Sisters’ mission to bring all into unity with God, with one another and with all creation. As our students experience the realities of other cultures, they gain appreciation for alternative perspectives and a deeper understanding of their role in the world community.

In addition to the 12 mission trips around the world, students also have the following opportunities for travel:
