Hello Friends,
It's hard to believe, but it's 80 years since the bombing of Pearl Harbor. For those of us who grew up post-WW II with the "Greatest Generation," we are quite familiar with the shocking events that unfolded. We heard the stories many times from mom and dad. But for our younger people, the history of WW II is getting lost. We salute the brave souls who sacrificed their lives on that fateful day at Pearl Harbor, and we thank the few that are still here to recount the stories. The top photo shows the USS Arizona as it was bombed, and now the memorial in Pearl Harbor.

House Bill H.R. 2963, the VOW to Hire Heroes Extension Act, was reintroduced earlier this year to provide businesses a tax credit for hiring unemployed and service-connected disabled Veterans.
Improving and extending the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) incentivizes workplace diversity, facilitates access to good jobs for Veterans, helps Veterans move towards self-sufficiency, and allows participating employers to reduce their income tax liability. Under the existing WOTC, employers claim about $1 billion in tax credits each year, making the tax credit a win-win for both businesses and Veterans.
Please ask your Representative to co-sponsor the VOW to Hire Heroes Extension Act of 2021.

This Is Why We Do What We Do

We were contacted by the daughter of a 90-year-old Korean War Veteran. Tina is the caregiver for both her parents. She asked for assistance with wood for her parents' house. They live up Big Thompson Canyon and oftentimes have power outages in the winter. Their home has a fireplace insert and a wood stove. In the past, neighbors have brought them wood; this year they didn’t. Tina asked if we could deliver some wood because cold weather is setting in. Shirley, one of our Family Care Coordinators, reached out to her brother, Gary, to see if he could help. His immediate response was “Yes! And I can bring them a cord or more!” Just as the wood warms their home, the opportunity to help them warms our hearts. Please read on…

Dear Qualified Listeners:
"We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all who were involved in the gift of wood that was delivered to our home on November 4th 2021. A few weeks prior we had called Qualified Listeners with a couple of requests, one which was wood for burning in our home (as this is how we heat our home for the winter), we were so impressed by Shirley’s pleasant demeanor and eagerness to help. She immediately jumped into action and within just a few days had contacted her brother Gary, who also jumped right into action and within a week Gary and his son Mike loaded up Gary’s truck and trailer and headed to our home where they unloaded most of the wood into our trailer and the rest where we asked them too.Thank You does not begin to express our appreciation! We are humbled, grateful, and blessed to have met these wonderful people, who did such a wonderful thing for us!"
Have A Blessed Day!

38-year-old Army Veteran in recovery for 3 years from drug addiction landed a new job after months of looking. A condition of his employment is to wear black non-slip shoes while on the job. He didn’t have transportation to go look for a pair, nor the money to buy them. He called us late afternoon on a Tuesday asking for help because his new job started the following Thursday. Jody, one of our Family Care Coordinators, facilitated this mission by coordinating the details then reached out to one of our volunteers, Dave Sloan, for assistance. Mission accomplished!
It’s amazing how a pair of shoes can change a man’s life:
November 18, 2021
"I am a veteran that is getting his feet underneath himself again, and in my time of need, Qualified Listeners came to my aid when I needed a new pair of shoes to start a new job. I called them with my need and the staff jumped in headfirst to help me out. Living in Greeley, and reliant on buses for transportation, the volunteers bent over backward to accommodate me and my situation. In less than eighteen hours, they managed to find a fellow veteran volunteer to pick me up from my house and drive me to Famous Footwear. I got a really good, comfortable pair of non-slip shoes in time to start my new job. Qualified Listeners really came through and it meant the world to me. It seems short of how I feel but thank you to everyone that made it possible for me to get back into the workforce again.”
