MESA COUNTY LIBRARIES, April 2024

The Institute of Museum and Library Services has selected Mesa County Libraries as one of 30 finalists for the 2024 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. Mesa County Libraries is the only institution in Colorado to be selected as a finalist for this award.

 

The National Medal is the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries that demonstrate significant impact in their communities. For 30 years, the award has honored institutions that demonstrate excellence in service to their communities.

New Artist in Residence (April 22)

Nicole Rivas is joining Mesa County Libraries as Artist in Residence from April 22nd to July 26, 2024. She is a prose writer originally from Los Angeles and the Inland Empire. She started writing and publishing short-form writing while earning a B.A. in English from California State University, San Bernardino. 


Before relocating to Grand Junction in 2022, Nicole spent nearly a decade living in the South, earning an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Alabama. Her debut short story collection, Tender Hoof: Stories (Thirty West Publishing House) was published in January 2024. In addition to writing short stories, Nicole is currently working on a novella


Poetry Contest

April is National Poetry Month, and to celebrate, we're having a poetry contest.

Adults age 18+ and teens in grades 6-12 may submit an original poem by 8 p.m. Sunday, April 14.


The top three poems will be awarded prizes and will be featured on our website and social media pages, once the poems have been selected and winners notified.

Books, books, and more books!

Come find some great deals on gently used paperbacks, hardbacks, DVDs, and more! Every Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 1425 N. 5th Street, excluding holiday weekends. All sales benefit Mesa County Libraries programs, such as Summer Reading, Comic Con, and Culture Fest. Cash and Venmo are accepted.

Eye Love Fruita Art Show Call for Artists

The Eye Love Fruita Art Show celebrates our community and what makes it special. Artists are invited to submit artworks that explore our diverse community and its rich perspectives. All genres and styles of compatible 2D wall art are encouraged.


Abstract and realistic representations of life, values, and what makes Fruita so special are encouraged! Entry deadline is 8 a.m. Monday, June 17. Entries will only be accepted online. (Applications will open April 22, 2024)
