And my God shall supply all your need
according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19 NKJV
There are certain Scriptures that are “go-tos” for many believers – Scriptures that especially resonate because they address our most fundamental needs, providing special comfort and security. For me, Philippians 4:19 is one of those. Knowing that God will supply all my needs – according to His riches in glory – the place of no lack – gives me a special confidence in Him as My Provider.
As much as I’ve heard this Scripture, in recently spending some dedicated time in Philippians, I got fresh revelation and an important reminder regarding that statement. Context is key.
This Scripture is from the Apostle Paul, who was writing to the church at Philippi. He had a special love and connection with this church, as it was the only one that helped support his needs. It wasn’t that Paul had asked for their help, but they gave it out of their love and respect for him, and to help his work of spreading the Gospel. The Philippian church’s giving blessed Paul, and pleased the Lord.
As a result of their generosity, freely offered, Paul could affirm that God would fully meet all of their needs. Of this he was certain. From this, we are to be just as certain regarding generosity - our own and God's.
