Safety Message from Police Chief Jason R. Greenwald

Dear Friends, Families, and Neighbors,

A new school year is upon us! The school year officially begins August 17th 2026. I would like to take this moment to remind you that the safety of our community’s children has been and always will be a priority for the Johnsburg Police Department. Please be mindful during your morning and afternoon travels as there will be an increased presence of children walking, biking, and riding to and from school.

School busses will be active throughout the community picking up and dropping off students on a daily basis. If a school bus has activated its flashing lights and extended the stop sign arm, you are required to stop safely and remain stopped until which time the lights are extinguished and the bus resumes travel. Violations for passing a school bus loading or unloading passengers (ILCS 625 5/11-1414) carries increased fines and the potential for the suspension of driving privileges. This law is effective on all roads within the Village of Johnsburg. Crosswalks with flashing light standards throughout the community are there as a pedestrian aid.

Please use caution while approaching all intersections and ensure that no pedestrians have entered the roadway. If a pedestrian is in the act of crossing a roadway, the approaching motorist is required to stop until the pedestrian’s crossing of the occupied lane is completed (ILCS 625 5/11-1002).

We wish you all a happy and safe school year, let’s work together to make sure that it is!

Thank you and stay safe,

Jason R. Greenwald

Chief of Police
