November 3, 2016

Dear ASWAD members,

As 2016 begins to draw to a close, I write to remind you that our 2017 conference is about 12 months away! As you hopefully know, the conference will be held November 7-11, 2017 in Seville, Spain. We are very excited to be holding our 9th biennial conference in Spain, because it will be our first conference held in Europe and it will provide us with the opportunity to engage important questions about race, nation, diaspora, and citizenship.

Please be on the lookout for the forthcoming Call For Papers, which will be available on  December 15.  The Call will be circulated on this list serve, and will also be posted on our website:

The theme for the 2017 conference is "African/Diasporic Futures: Re-Envisioning Power, Interventions, Imaginations and Belonging" so feel free to begin thinking about concepts for panels. Again, the Call for Papers will be available in mid-December, along with our new online membership database.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to contact the Program Committee at:

Best wishes,

Leslie M. Alexander, Ph.D.
President, Association for the Study of the Worldwide African Diaspora
