View From a Small Island: Reflections From the First British President of ITGA

As I sit at the midway (ish) point of my tenure as the inaugural British President (Queen) of the International Town and Gown Association (ITGA), reflecting on the journey thus far fills me with immense pride and gratitude.

The 2025 ITGA City & University Relations Conference will be hosted by the City of Kent, Ohio, and Kent State University, June 4-6, 2025, with the theme Communicate, Collaborate, & Celebrate! The conference will highlight the importance of effective communication and collaboration between public and private sectors, as well as celebrating successes that inspire further excellence. Civil Unrest: Preparing and Responding to Modern Demonstrations

The Pre-Conference event on June 3rd, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, will focus on "Civil Unrest: Preparing and Responding to Modern Demonstrations," with a special emphasis on the tragic events of May 4th, 1970, at Kent State University. Recent graduates of Michigan State University founded Safety Straw Inc., a product to prevent drink spiking. Their goal is to make the bars in East Lansing safer for students, with the hopes to expand to other college towns.

Key provisions include abolishing Section 21 “no-fault” evictions, banning rental bidding wars, allowing tenants to request permission to keep pets, a Private Rented Sector Landlord Ombudsman and the application of the Decent Homes Standard to ensure quality living conditions.

York University Launches Public Employment Equity Dashboard

This dashboard will be important in helping the community form a better understanding of York as a workplace and to increase positive outcomes in representation for identified employment equity groups,” says Margaret Kierylo, assistant vice-president institutional planning and chief data officer.

Campus Safety Revives Feature Allowing Students to Register Off-Campus Parties

According to Director of Campus Safety & Emergency Management Michael McNerney, the main function of this feature is to facilitate conversations between UP students and neighbors who have lodged a complaint about an off-campus party to avoid intervention from Portland Police.
