Seasons Greetings from Fremont Township Highway Dept! You may have seen us out and about in your neighborhood in the past couple weeks—We have been taking advantage of this unseasonably warm weather by cleaning and inspecting your storm sewer systems. The gratings you see along the streets catch water runoff from the roads and carry it through a system of pipes and eventually empty into the lake. Leaves, soil and other debris get washed into the basins, which could negatively affect the drainage by clogging pipes. Keeping this debris out of the storm sewer system also helps the health of your lake by reducing sediments that cloud the water and nutrients that can promote algae growth.
Once each fall, our department cleans up leaves along the curb line in areas of the township that have storm sewers for stormwater, followed by subsequent street sweeping when needed. You can help keep your drainage systems working properly by removing leaves and debris from the catch basin gratings located off the road.
Our weather this fall definitely complicated leaf clean-up for all—we ask that you please do not burn leaves in the roads! Fire can cause considerable damage to our roads and is against Countryside fire ordinance. Our paving schedule is based on a 20-yr rotation, so we need to make our roads last!
Thank You for your help maintaining our beautiful community!
