July 1, 2021
Dear friends & neighbors:

First and foremost, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy Independence Day! As we celebrate our nation’s independence, let us pay tribute to our freedom fighters, to our soldiers, to our nation’s heroes who fought for the freedoms we all enjoy.

As you know, we had to forego celebrating last year due to the pandemic so I'm sure everyone is ready for a fun-filled celebration for this 4th of July. Enjoy your time with family and friends, and no matter what you choose to do on this holiday, please stay safe and healthy. To all of my fellow veterans, I salute you and thank you for your service.

Rancho Mirage Energy Authority
The Rancho Mirage City Council started Rancho Mirage Energy Authority (RMEA) for the purpose of helping to reduce our community’s Southern California Edison (SCE) electricity bills. RMEA is yet another way the City Council is being proactive in offering Rancho Mirage residents and businesses yet another benefit of living and working in our fine City.

What Can YOU Do to Make Rancho Mirage Even More Beautiful?

Get greener….seek high energy efficiency appliances and thermostats, turn the lights off when not in use, and choose to opt-up to RMEA Premium Renewable Choice, the 100% renewable energy option.

When you became an RMEA customer and were automatically enrolled into savings you also began using cleaner energy through the default option, RMEA Base Choice (50% carbon-free) but, why stop there? YOU have the power to opt-up to the Premium Renewable Choice!

The cost difference is $0.009 per kWh, that's right, less than a cent per kWh! To put it simply, the average residential home in Rancho Mirage uses 1,100 kWh per month, which would result in an average of $9.90 per month to make Rancho Mirage even greener! The difference in cost is marginal but, the impact you make is significant. What are you waiting for?

Opt-up today by filling out the online form on the RMEA website
or by calling (760) 578-6092 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday.
What is Senate Bill 1383 All About?
State Required Changes Are Coming, Are You Prepared?
Senate Bill 1383 was signed into law in September 2016, this law requires a 75% statewide reduction in organic waste by 2025, with set requirements going into effect each year to help reach this goal. These changes include certain bin colors for trash, recycling, and the addition of green organic waste bins and their collection by year-end.

The next step required by the State is for Rancho Mirage to add the collection of organic waste from your home by January 2022. Organic waste includes food waste and green waste such as plant trimmings and wood waste as well as certain “contaminated” paper waste, such as pizza boxes. You have been throwing these items away in the trash and will continue to do so for now but, once you have your new bins you will need to sort your waste a little differently.

New bins will be coming by year-end, phased into the different neighborhoods starting in the fall. While there is not a neighborhood bin transition schedule posted yet, the City will continue to communicate and provide updates as we come closer to rolling out the new requirements.

Coffee with a Cop is Back!
One of the things I missed during the pandemic was Coffee with a Cop. If you're not familiar, let me tell you there's nothing better than to have a cup of Joe, with local law enforcement to discuss community issues.

Coffee with a Cop's mission is to break down the barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve. Residents will have the opportunity to sit down with the officers who serve our wonderful city and ask questions or share what’s on their mind. It's a great opportunity to get to know each other and discover mutual goals for the communities we live in and serve.

I attend most, if not all, Coffee with a Cop events. I enjoy the casual setting that allows residents to comfortably discuss the things that matter to them and our community.

I am looking forward to seeing you at Starbucks at Rancho Las Palmas shopping center located at 42500 Bob Hope Drive on Thursday, July 22nd from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
