Dear Wonderful Lovejoy Community,
I hope you and your family enjoyed a safe and happy holiday season! While we look forward to the greatness our Lovejoy Leopards will bring in 2021; we reflect on 2020 with pride as our students, staff, parents, and community faced unique challenges but continued to persevere, live out the graduate profile, and show all how "We Live Lovejoy"!
Lovejoy Visual Arts Celebrations
Lovejoy Visual Arts (LJVA) is excited to announce that 2020 LHS graduate Hunter Ruiz was selected to be included in the College Board’s 2020 AP Art and Design Digital Exhibit. This exhibit features 51 international high school artists who submitted their artwork to the 2020 AP Art and Design exam. The artworks selected represent the resilience and perseverance of high school students worldwide as they create innovative bodies of work based on personal process, concept, and ideation. The exhibit features student and teacher reflections on these works, providing compelling insights into how artists make choices and approach art-making. Culling from the top scores, the 51 students selected for the AP Art and Design Digital Exhibit represent high-quality examples of rigor and excellence of the AP Art and Design portfolio and an exemplar teaching tool shared with AP Art and Design students and teachers around the world.
Congratulations to Hunter on this incredible honor and recognition of her artwork! Visit the link above to see Hunter’s selected work.
LJVA is thrilled to announce that 3 Lovejoy Visual Artists were recognized as 2021 YoungArts winners!

Selected from thousands of applications and representing artists from across the United States, these YoungArts award winners will have opportunities for financial, creative, and professional development support throughout their entire careers. Selected through the organization’s prestigious competition, YoungArts award winners are chosen for their caliber of artistic achievement by esteemed discipline-specific panels of artists through a rigorous blind adjudication process.

YoungArts award winners become eligible for exclusive creative and professional development support, including a wide range of fellowships, residencies, and awards; virtual and in-person presentation opportunities in collaboration with major venues nationwide as well as additional financial support.

Leopard Football
Our Lovejoy Leopard Football team competed in the last game of their season in the Regional finals on New Year's Day. We are #LovejoyProud of these amazing athletes and coaches on a fantastic season!
Lovejoy Volleyball
Congratulations to the Lovejoy High School Volleyball team on being named the 2020 National High School Team of the Year! Additional congratulations to Head Coach Ryan Mitchell, who was recognized as The Dallas Morning News' Coach of the Year for the 2020 Volleyball season.
Dawton Bruner - Eagle Service Project
Dawton Bruner, an LHS Sophomore and member of Troop 224, made the most of his 2020 year. Along with school and sports, he recently completed his Eagle Scout Project. With some of the materials donated from Tower Extrusions in Wylie, Texas, Dawton custom-built the forest green table for the Lucas Fire Department. It displays several plaques with the Shifts, donors, a thank you message, and the Bible verse Isaiah 43:2 engraved on them. The words “In Honor of Our Hometown Heroes” can be found on an engraved plate in the center of the table. Dawton believes the Fire Department is a very worthy group to be honored and appreciated.

On December 7, 2020, Pearl Harbor Day, Dawton Bruner achieved the Rank of Eagle Scout, this being the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouts of America. The evening ended with the new Eagle Scout Bruner retiring several American Flags. One very special American Flag had been flown over Pearl Harbor in June 2006 in honor of Aviation Radioman 1st class Petty Officer James Elvin Sellers, a WWII veteran. Mr. Sellers served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945. He was the father of Mrs. Janet Tillman, a much loved and retired Lovejoy ISD Librarian, whom we would like to thank for entrusting us with this honor.

Inclement Weather Procedures
Lovejoy ISD is dedicated to ensuring all parents and students are informed about school delays or closings due to inclement weather. The district utilizes a number of resources to notify individuals about school delays or closings, including several radio and television stations. While we recognize that all parents will not be reached through a single information source, our hope is that collectively we can provide ample avenues to obtain timely information.
