Three Lovejoy High School Students Selected for Congressional Youth Advisory Council

Congratulations to Ian Bensley, David David, and Ariel Feldman from Lovejoy High School on being selected for the 2020-2021 Congressional Youth Advisory Council Program!

Each year, the Congressional Youth Advisory Council offers students a unique opportunity to learn more about public policy, local issues and interact with federal representatives and congressional staff. Students must apply to be a part of this committee and are evaluated by a board comprised of educators and community leaders who evaluate students on their academic performance, leadership skills, extra-curricular participation and community service.

Attendance Changes for 2nd 9-Weeks
Starting the 2nd 9-Weeks, and in alignment with the TEA virtual instructional learning plans submitted by Lovejoy ISD for funding purposes, students who have selected On-Campus instruction are expected to attend On-Campus instruction Monday - Friday.

Secondary students will no longer be able to gain attendance credit by attending classes virtually if designated an On-Campus student unless the student is out for illness, officially quarantined due to exposure, out due to COVID illness or the instructional day has been approved as an asynchronous day by Lovejoy ISD.

Students participating in Leopard Virtual Learning will follow attendance procedures below for their corresponding grade level.

Synchronous Instruction (5th -12th Grade) requires students and teachers to be present at the same time online. This method replicates the current on-campus method of taking daily attendance in a remote synchronous instructional setting. In a remote synchronous teaching and learning method, students who are logged in at the teacher’s documented official attendance time are marked present for that day, and students who are not logged in at the teacher’s documented official attendance time are marked absent. *Please note new attendance standards will start for LHS on October 15th.
Asynchronous Instruction (Pre-K - 4th Grade ONLY, unless designated by LISD) does not require students and teachers to be present online at the same time. If a teacher has assigned asynchronous learning, students who login and engage in teacher-assigned learning apps for the day are considered “present” for that class. Students who do not login and engage in asynchronous learning for the day it was assigned by their teachers will be marked “absent” for that class. For example, if a teacher assigns the entire weeks' worth of asynchronous learning activities on Monday and the student completes all of the assignments for the week on Monday and does not log in for the remainder of the week, he/she will be marked “present” on Monday only and counted “absent” for Tuesday-Friday.

Please note that these changes are reflected in the updated 2020 - 2021 Fall Planning Guide.

Transportation Data Collection
LISD has created a supplemental application process that will allow the district to collect and evaluate data from our families regarding their transportation needs in an effort to plan for the possible expansion of paid-routes for current ineligible zones.

The request application was emailed to Lovejoy ISD families on Friday, September 25th. The application will remain open; however, initial data collected by the morning of Monday, October 5th will be evaluated first for possible immediate relief.

Currently, the transportation department is working through requests received and following up personally with each family to review available options.

Additionally, data will continue to be evaluated geographically regarding the feasibility of adding future bus routes based on participation.
COVID Case
Notification & Dashboard

In accordance with TEA required notifications and in an effort to keep our parents, staff, and community informed, Lovejoy ISD will be sending email notifications to parents and staff for each occurance of a positive COVID case.

We have created a COVID Case Dashboard website that is now being updated throughout the day to reflect real-time active lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in Lovejoy ISD.

Lovejoy ISD will personally contact individuals who may have come in close contact (as defined by TEA) with a lab-confirmed positive case on a campus. If you are NOT directly contacted, then you are NOT someone who was identified as having close contact with a positive individual.

The COVID Case Dashboard is accessible from the main district website, each campus website and can be accessed here.
